He walked past it everyday, always pausing to smile at it, before going on his way.

One day he stopped, pausing to look into its eyes.

He was sure no one had changed it, but something seemed off.

It stood there, stony, an expression of power on its face.

The statue was well crafted, he thought. But it's wrong.

Her face was too young.

Her eyes, too wide.

Her fingers, too long.

The girl before him, trapped in stone, was too perfect to be his Yuna.

She was young, she was innocent, beautiful.

But she had more character in her features than her stoic copy.

The statue's jaw was too relaxed, whereas Yuna's was always set in determination.

He didn't smile at it this day, but smiled as he left the temple.

The crafter did a good job, but it was nothing compared to her.

His would be better.

A block of wood.

A smile knife.

And a few hours a day, slaving away, making it perfect.

Just her face, nothing more.

He handed it to her in one year's time.

No ring.

No proposal.

Just a block of wood.

It wasn't traditional, but at least it was right.
