Canada held the key to the door in his right hand, a bag of random trinkets in the other. The lock clicked to signify 'I'm open!!'. Kumajiro looked up. "Who?" Matthew sighed. "I'm Canada, you know, the guy who feeds you?" Kumajiro nodded and padded off to the couch to sleep. Kiku popped up around the corner. "How was your day, Matthew?" the smaller man asked. "Just another day. Meeting with the boss, Alfred being a general annoyance. How was yours, eh?" Canada said, scowling at America's latest hairbrained schemes that would get everyone killed. "Rather boring. Kuma slept all day." A smile played at his lips. Canada closed the distance between them with one step. Japan wound his arms around Matthew's waist. Chocolate eyes locked with violet ones. Love radiated from the two in waves. Canada pulled Japan into a kiss. The kiss was gentle, passionate. The parted for air and Canada smiled. Tonight was going to be special.
"Hmm. What to make for dinner." Canada wondered aloud. "I've got it! Pasta!" Good thing Feliciano had taught Matthew how to cook the dish. He put water into the giant pot he had for making various, food-related things. Turning on the stove, he set the heavy pot on the burner to heat up.
Meanwhile...
Japan was in Canada's study, reading old books on the nation's history. He was told to stay out of the kitchen by a very flustered Canadian, so he retreated to the study. As he was reading, a breeze came through the open window. The cool forest air had a strange effect on the little man. It sent him into a calm, trance-like state. He loved his country, but the air here was like heaven for Kiku.
Later, Canada went up to the study to find a very relaxed Kiku. The chocolate coloured orbs that melted his heart over and over again were locked on his. "Come, dinner is ready." Matthew said, offering Kiku his hand. They walked hand in hand down to the kitchen, which had essentially been transformed. Candles on the table, lights down low. Romantic. Both sat down to eat their tasty food.
Later...~
Canada picked up the plates, putting them in the dishwasher. His face turned a bright red as he thought of what he was about to do. "Kiku...?" his voice quivered slightly, but otherwise revealed nothing. "Yes, Matthew?" Japan was curious, as he'd heard the difference in Canada's voice. "Come with me please..." he trailed off. Japan nodded, and they walked outside, hand in hand.
A bright full moon bathed everything in a pale colour. The breeze was cool, air fresh. The grass was soft, dew already set. Spring peepers were weaving their songs through the forest. "Kiku..." Canada whispered. He pulled a small object out of his pocket. Gliding gracefully down on one knee, Matthew opened the small box, a diamond solitare engagement ring glowed in the pale moonlight. "Kiku Honda, my love. Will you marry me?" Kiku gasped, and was at a loss for words. "I-I will! Yes!"
Canada slipped the ring onto his beloved's left ring finger. Tears of joy streamed down Japan's face. Canada stood and embraced the ecstatic, trembling nation. Kiku caught Matthew's lips in a passionate kiss. When they parted, they headed back to the house to cuddle.
