Disclaimer: I would not be the owner of Sherlock Holmes or May Poppins
I recently rewatched Mary Poppins for the first time in years, and this popped into my head. Because it's really too good of an idea to let go to waste.
It was a quiet day in the Banks household. Michael was in bed with a bad cold, and so everyone was trying their very hardest to be quiet for him. The doctor, who went by the name of Watson, had just finished looking at him, and was now outside the nursery discussing treatment with Mary Poppins. "... Just keep him in bed for a day or so, and make him drink lots of water. If he doesn't seem to be getting any better, you're perfectly welcome to ring me again."
Mary Poppins smiled warmly. "Thank you so very much Doctor. I know you're always so busy."
Doctor Watson replied in kind. "Nonsense, nonsense. I'm glad to help you out Miss Poppins. What are old friends for otherwise? If anything, you are the one who is busy. How come you don't come visit us anymore?"
"I've been out of town," Mary Poppins replied simply. "You know how it is. Has the rapscallion been causing trouble again?"
Doctor Watson sighed. "You don't know the half of it. Running around half the night, my poor aching leg. Not that I'm complaining. He's just one of those people that after you meet them, you wonder how you ever got on without them. Much like you, actually," Doctor Watson finished with an implying eyebrow.
Mary Poppins put her hands on her hips. "Doctor John Watson, you are making this up just so I will come set things straight again, and I will not stand for it!" She smiled, offsetting the scolding. "When I am done here I will be sure to poke my nose in, though heaven forbid if he tries to drag me off on one of his adventures. I had enough of that when he was nine, thank you very much."
Doctor Watson smiled widely. "I rather think that at this point he's old enough to start trying to figure out how you stay so young. I myself would rather like to know that. I first met you about fifteen years ago, and you haven't aged a day."
"A lady never explains anything," Mary Poppins replied. "Good luck then. I will call you if it gets worse, and I will come to visit as soon as I can. Tell Sherlock to behave for me, would you?"
Doctor Watson tipped his hat. "Of course, madam. I'm sure the prospect of being visited by his old nanny will have him trembling in his shoes. Good day."
"That man only trembles in excitement. He surely was a very hyperactive youngster. Good day Doctor." Mary Poppins waved the good doctor off, then went to give Cook her favorite soup recipe for sick children. Between her and Doctor Watson, Michael would be back on his feet in no time.
You have no idea how tempting it was to put, instead of "A lady never explains anything", "A secret makes a woman a woman". No idea. Reviews please!
