Of Love and Promise
For the man,
She was a threadbare pipe dream.
She reached out to him,
yet he did not hold her hand.
She asked where he was going.
He apologized and said
that he was leaving
so she would never be sad again.
The memory of her misery
plagued the man
but he found comfort in his promise.
The man could not keep his promise.
He was dying,
and she was crying
loudly, and wailing.
The blue of her eyes
glazed with water
Her sunshine hair shone
and fell like a curtain around him.
Although he had turned into a treacherous snake
in a day,
betrayed her,
left her,
and pained her,
she still reached for him once more
and cried out
I love you.
The man cried in his heart
quietly, not bawling,
for the embarrassment of tears.
The man was glad he apologized.
