"Again, do it again."

Her words cut through him like the claws of the lioness he was fighting. He had failed, yet again.

His mother had a stern look on her face. She wanted him to be the best, why couldn't he do it?

He battled the lioness again, and once again he was defeated.

"You are weak. A disgrace to Scar" his mother sneered.

She pounced on him.

He looked down at the lioness below him. He had never beaten any of them before.

He turned to look at his mother. He was suppressing his smile. Now, she had to be proud of him.

"Well?" she snapped. "What are you waiting for?"

His pride quickly turned to confusion. What more was there to do? He had the lioness pinned. He had defeated her.

"Oh, Kovu, I hope you do not plan on letting Simba live after you beat him" she tutted.

A deep horror flashed through his being. He looked down at the lioness.

She was young, but had been fully grown when he had been born. She had understood Zira instantly, and her face now betrayed a sense of fear.

"Do it" Zira hissed.

He looked down at the being beneath him. He sheathed his claws and slowly backed away from her.

"You are still weak" his mother growled, batting him away from the other lioness. "I'll do it myself."

Kovu slunk away, his head falling even further at every roar he heard from the lioness.

"You must do it this time, Kovu" she told him.

Once more he was staring down at a lioness beneath his claws. He glanced at his mother.

"Remember what she did" Zira continued to taunt him.

The creature on her back was staring up at him, her eyes wide and fearful. Part of him wanted to leave her be. But his mother had a point. She had betrayed them. She had tried to return to the Pride Lands.

Hate filled his heart. Growling, he attacked.

He tried to forget his past. He couldn't stand what he had done, what he had gone through.

But, it was a part of him. He couldn't change his past, no matter how much he wanted to.

He had done horrible things in his past, things none of the Pride Landers could never even dream of in their worst nightmares.

He woke next to Kiara, his chest heaving as he gasped for breath. The nightmares plagued him. He had at least two a week.

Sighing, he climbed to his feet, and padded out of the cave.

The stars were shinning bright above him. The round moon cast light onto the land before him.

He slowly walked to the edge of the rock, and collapsed onto the cool material. His head was resting on his paws as he looked out at the Pride Lands.

That was his past, but this was his future.

Another small Lion King fandom one-shot, hope it is liked. I don't own any of it, or I would be rich, and Disney Channel would not be the way it is;)
