Chapter 1
Leslie sat in the park reading her favorite book,"The Outsiders."She suddenly heard someone's voice, "Ray, Ray! Ray, Where are you?"
Leslie closed her book, tucked in under her arm and followed the voice down the dirt path behind the park. As she got further down the path, the voice got louder and clearer. "Ray! Ray! Come on man! Where the hell are you?!"
Leslie spotted a young man looking around frantically. She walked up and tapped him on the shoulder. He spun around and his eyes grew wide; He started pushing her back to the park, "umm, it's not really safe here; why don't you go home."
Leslie turned herself around and pushed his hands off her, "I heard your voice and I thought I could help you find your friend." Suddenly, the leaves started crushing and it sounded like an animal was running towards them. The young man stepped in front of Leslie and positioned himself as if someone was about to hurt her.
All of the sudden, a large hairy animal leapt out of the trees and landed right in front of the young man. "What is that?!" Leslie exclaimed. The young man ignored her and looked the animal into the eyes, "Ray, calm down, you don't want to hurt anyone." The animal growled and the young man sighed. "Dammit Ray!"
Leslie looked at the animal and back at the young man. He started huffing and he started growing higher and bigger. He transformed into the same animal that stood before him. Ray lunged toward him and he fought against him.
Leslie darted toward the park. She heard one of the animals following her. She glanced behind her and saw that Ray was on her tail and his friend was right behind him. Leslie reached the park and continued up the street. She reached her house and flew through the door; she slammed the door and locked it. She looked out the window and didn't see anything.
The next day Leslie stayed in her house; she was fixing herself lunch when she heard the doorbell. She walked to the door and opened it. The young man from the day before stood on her porch. He looked at her and gave her an awkward smile, "My name is Logan. I came to talk to you about what you saw yesterday." A knot filled Leslie's throat and she forced out, "Umm, well, actually I've been trying to forget thank you." She tried to shut the door but Logan stopped it with his hand and pushed it back open. His force pushed Leslie back and he stepped in, "You really don't know what you've gotten yourself into," He explained.
Leslie stepped back even more and Logan stepped forward. "Fine, what do you want to talk about?" She tried to keep her voice even. "What you saw yesterday is a secret that cannot be revealed. You have no idea what will happen to us and you if we are revealed for being what we are." He took another step towards her and she backed up into a wall. Logan walked up to her and leaned his face into her and stared into her eyes. "Do NOT tell anyone what you saw and you'll be safe, understand?" Leslie nodded trying to keep calm. Logan turned and walked to the door and paused, "I really hope we don't have to have an encounter, things won't end well." He disappeared out the door and into the day.
Leslie stood against the wall and tried to regain her balance she stumbled back into the kitchen and sat at the empty table as hot tears glided down her cheeks. She was in a nightmare that wouldn't end.
