Prompt: #48 Diamond (from the FF100 Table)

Mal stood by the hatch, eyes wide. Zoe stood beside him, face blank, but with eyes that showed she was reliving her own experience. Inara's smile was small, but still joyful. Simon held Kaylee's hand ans she beamed. River was in the middle of it all, crying tears of joy.

And Jayne? He was on one knee.

River Tam, soon to be River Cobb, spent the next week floating on a cloud. She and Serenity's other women spent hours daily making plans and arrangements. She was to be wed on Jayne's homeworld, in his front yard. Her dress was long and wispy, bought for a bargain price on the cortex. They had spent so much time planning, and the event was still months away.

However, that gave them plenty of time to fawn over River's ring. Jayne had spent months of pay on it, and he knew a diamond that size was worth four times less than he had paid, but it was worth it. Everybody had admired the cut and clarity of the beautiful diamond. River had no intention of telling anybody that Jayne had spent months' wages on a piece of glass.

Because, she knew her glass gem was far superior to any diamond.
