A Fathers Promise

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away:

Jango Fett and his son Boba have been commissioned by Tyranus to eradicate rebels on Kuat. Their destination, Kuat City, is still lightyears away, so the Fett's enjoy a moment of silence…

Jango's fingers drummed methodically on his chair in the still cockpit, the engine humming quietly in the background and the soft breaths of his son, Boba, the only noises to be heard. It was all very serene, and Jango would be lying if he said he wasn't enjoying the moment of peace spent with his son.

"Father?" Boba's solemn voice banished the silence.

"Yes, Boba?" Jango glanced away from his screen for a moment to shoot the boy a small smile.

"I was wondering… About the cloning process." He was looking out the window at stars, merely white slips of light shooting past at hyperspeed.

"What about it?" Jango coaxed. He didn't know much about the science behind it, but if Boba was asking about how he had been chosen as the subject for the cloning, he had a grand, and very long, story to tell.

"What made you decide to have me created?"

Jango paused, eyes drifting over the stars. "It's a long story, Boba."

"But why did you want me?"

"I… Had an associate named Rozatta, but I just called her Roz. She was a sassy old Toydarian, and she would have liked you." Jango paused. He could see her in his minds eye, fussing over him like a mother whenever he returned with a new scar or had risked himself for the sake of an especially valuable bounty.

"She would gather info on my bounties for me, so long as she got her 'finders fee'." He chuckled lightly. Boba sat quietly by, waiting for him to continue. "I was approached by Tyranus after I bagged a troublesome one for Roz. She… Told me not to take the job he offered me." One of Boba's dark eyebrows rose. "She said she 'got a bad feeling' about it. I told her not to worry about it so much, but she just kept on, of course." Jango glanced over at Boba, who had his eyebrows pinched together.

"Thoughts?" Jango asked, running his gloved finger thoughtfully down the Slave I's control board.

"You keep talking about Roz… Does she have something to do with why I was created?"

"Yes." Jango's eyes wandered to another time and place. "Montross killed Roz, Boba. He tortured her and blew up her station, the Outland station, but she requested something of me before she died."

Boba leaned ever so slightly closer.

"She told me to find another reason for living besides money." He rested his chin on his fingers. "And so I did. And here you are."

"So, she wanted you to have me? Is she almost like my mother?" Boba's eyebrows once again puckered in thought.

"No!" Jango laughed. "No, no… More like your crazy aunt that would have spoiled you rotton, were she still alive." Jango pinched Boba's cheek and Boba smacked his hand away and scowled, his ears turning pink. Boba then slugged Jango in the shoulder.

"Well, she would have been more fun that you!" Boba giggled as Jango threw his head back and roared with laughter.
