It's amazing at times to think of our lives, pathetic as we are. Honestly, the logic was confusing. One death was a tragedy, but a thousand deaths was a statistic. Light pondered this as he wrote the names in the death note. Perhaps it's because so many people die it seems unreal. Or perhaps it's just humans being unable to cope with the loss.

It didn't matter though. Light was God. He controlled life and death. He killed thousands going millions and that was a statistic. It wasn't a tragedy, it wasn't a sin. It was a simple statistic people would hear and go 'how awful' before going with their average lives. Like L, he caught thousands of criminals. That was also a statistic. Light smiled to himself blankly as he wrote another name. Why feel sorry for something that no one else cared about? Ok, six or seven people did (should he count Matsuda if he defended Kira?) but short of that the world just continued with their lives not really caring.

Is that human mentality? Is that the curse of being a human? Light was the God cursed with the role of punishment. It was his role to see the dark side of the human race and punish them accordingly. It was his role to watch and remain unbiased. Light soon realised this was impossible. How could he watch people who worshiped a murderer and not be disgusted?

That was why Light looked in a mirror everyday and told himself he was God silently. Because if he didn't think that, he'd need to acknowledge a new truth. That he was a coldblooded murderer. No better than those he punished.

Yes, Light was God. Because only God could kill enough people for it to be considered a statistic. And what are a thousand lives compared to that of God?

Light tried to tell himself this as he watched L die and part of him realised he was a hypocrite. By then he no longer cared.
