I looked down into those wide green eyes. Could someone really look that innocent? I wondered to myself.

I couldn't't stop smiling. Edward was my first child, though named after his father he looked just like me. He was just beginning to talk. Of course his first word was Dad. Edward senior was never going to let me forget that.

Now as I sat there, rocking my little baby in my arms, I tried to get him to say mom, but he was so stubborn even at a year old. I finally gave up; it was time for him to go to bed anyway. I got up from the chair and walked across the hall to his room. I laid him down for the night. I was going to be up awhile longer.

I grabbed my book and went back to the rocking chair. I settled down for the hour I would have to wait till Edward got home from the smith. He worked as a blacksmith just down the road.

I had gotten a good ways into the book when I heard Edward crying. I sighed and got up. I never had any time to myself these days. I peaked into his room. He lay there crying softly but still asleep. He must have been having a nightmare. It was very hard to watch as his face grew more and more appalled. It made me wonder what he was dreaming about. I didn't dare wake him, he would never go back to sleep.

There was nothing I could do so I walked back to my room suddenly very tired. I quietly changed into my nightgown no longer up to waiting for Edward to return. I walked to the mirror. I examined my face noting how much it had changed in the last year. Of course I new the source of the change it was the stress of a baby. I quickly shook off the thought Edward was the best thing I could have asked for. I loved him with all my heart. I thought of his sweet smile and cooing laughs and couldn't help but smile myself.

I started to take the pins out of my hair exasperated by how many there were. Finally I pulled the last one out and let my hair fall around my face and shoulders. I watched as the light reflected off my bronze hair. It reminded me of the wisps of hair that surrounded my little Edward's face.

I heard the door clang shut. Edward was home early. I glanced up as he came into the room.

"Welcome home." I said.

"Hello Elizabeth" He replied.

It was quiet for a minute as I combed through my hair. I looked up; about to ask him how his day was, but his expression stopped me. He was standing there with a huge smile on his face.

"What . . ." I began, but I stopped when he pulled something out of his pocket. It was a necklace. I gasped when I saw what dangled from the chain. The light sparkled off the heart shaped diamond. I was speechless as he came over and fastened the clasp around my neck. I could feel the tears welling up in the corner of my eyes.

"Th Thank you" I stuttered.

I didn't know what else to say. It was amazing.

"Do you like it?" He asked sarcastically examining my amazed expression.

I turned around to face him, wrapping my arms around his waist.

"How?" I stammered "Where?"

"That's for me to worry about. Now, you look exhausted. Did Edward give you trouble today?"

"No"

"I'm just tired."

"Well, let's get you to bed."
