An Unexpected Visitor
I wrote this for a project, I hope you like it
It was a regular day in Camelot, people came and went without bothering the guards. All in all, it was a good day, except for Merlin. The young servant was currently running all over the castle doing chores for Arthur. The Prince however, was out training with his knights. Merlin glared at Arthur, he wanted a break from all this work. A voice called out through the air.
"MERLIN, GET OVER HERE!"
His head snapped to look over at the prince only to see him impatiently waiting. Merlin sighed, this would be a long day. He stood and jogged over, already planning out a list of sarcastic remarks. He reached his destination and said, "What do you want prat." The look on Arthur's face was worth the long list of added chores he was sure to be assigned.
"Merlin you absolute idiot this is important! The guests for the feast will be arriving soon, go and help the other servants prepare the citadel for their arrival." Arthur lectured.
Merlin grumbled and reluctantly turned to do as the prince asked. It wasn't long before he reached the kitchens to help prepare for the feast. Before they knew it night had arrived and the whole of Camelot was preparing for the feast. Merlin was rushing to the room where the feast was being held, he was late and knew what the consequences would be if he wasn't there now. He skidded to a halt in front of the doors and tried to open them quietly, but luck wasn't on his side. The hinges make a loud, echoing, squeaky noise that reverberated throughout the room halting all activity as everyone turned to look at the cause of the interruption. Merlin, flushed with embarrassment, trotted over to his place behind the prince. It wasn't long until the guests walked through the doors. They took their places and started conversing. Merlin couldn't shake the funny feeling about them, it was as if they radiated such an authority to put the whole room into a state of unease. He was snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of his name being whispered.
"Merlin, Merlin are you listening?"
He was startled, but responded with,"What Arthur?" The clotpole looked agitated, but spoke up anyway,
"Why are you so tense, this is a feast, relax."
Merlin was surprised at this, but just as he was about to speak, one of the guests stood and started to walk towards the head table where they were located. Once he was a table length away he stopped and stared at the king, he looked like he wanted to strangle him. Merlin moved to a position where he could use magic without being seen. Then the man began to speak,
"You, Uther Pendragon, have terrorized this land for far too long, and today", the man grinned,"You shall lose something very dear to you."
He pulled out a dagger and prepared to throw it straight at Arthur. Merlin uttered a spell that redirected the dagger and it hit the intruder square in the chest. Everyone thought that Arthur had caught the knife and thrown it back. They cheered, unaware of what had just happened. Arthur shifted to stare at Merlin in confusion, what had he done to stop the dagger. Merlin was worried, Arthur was suspicious. He could tell his father and then Merlin would be executed for practicing magic. He needed to get out of here. Merlin snuck around to the doors and quietly left. He ran to his chambers and locked the door, awaiting his doom.
