The Professor gripped Luke's hand, who whimpered and screwed his eyes closed.
It pained him to see the boy in this condition, but it had been unavoidable. Weak constitution, playing out in the rain, it all added up to the flu. But while other kids got sniffles, upset stomachs, or had to lay in bed, Luke got sick to the point where Emmy and the Professor had to debate whether or not to take him to intensive care.
And now was no exception. The Professor had received a phone call on Monday, reporting that Luke had fainted during class earlier and was now in the clinic with a temperature of 103 degrees (Fahrenheit). He had excused himself from the lecture, leaving it to Emmy, and after pleading with Dean Delmona, was allowed to leave early. The Professor had rushed over to the school as fast as the speed limit would allow.
By the time he had gotten there, poor Luke was delirious and had to be taken home immediately. He had remembered the small boy not remembering who he was because of his fever.
It was now Thursday, and Luke had shown no signs of improvement. Emmy who had taken work off, as well as Hershel, was working hard to bring his fever down. She had opened the window in his bedroom, but had also stacked blankets on top of Luke.
"Why open the window then?" Hershel sighed, as Emmy brought in one more blanket.
"Because, I want to bring down his fever. However, I don't want him to get cold." Hershel sighed again and smiled down at Luke, who's eyes were screwed tightly shut. The poor boy hadn't gotten a wink of real sleep in about half a week. Emmy straightened his bedclothes, and then ran to re-wet the washcloth that she had placed on the small boy's forehead.
Hershel sighed...and blinked with surprise as Luke peeled his eyes open.
"Professor?" He gripped Luke's hand more tightly.
"Yes?" Luke yawned, eyes watering. He rolled over onto his side, and grinned feebly at his beloved mentor.
"Tell me a puzzle?"
Yes, and Luke recovers, slowly but surely!
I listen to music while I type, even at school!
