Wow, not Professor Layton for once! I'm shocked at myself!

Hermione stared out the window at the school grounds. She sighed and leaned against one of the support beams, which were spotted everywhere in this little godforsaken tower.

She wondered if she really was in love. Love was hard to tell. She had never had a crush on anyone, except for little William Kidnip in kindergarten. She wondered how you got someone to fall in love with you. Did you immediately reach for a love potion? Or did you write them a poem? She didn't know. It frustrated her. The one thing she would need, she couldn't read about, she couldn't take a class about, she couldn't even take notes on it, for Pete's sake! How had Ginny gotten Dean to go out with her? Had she wooed him with her curves? Her beautiful, sleek, shiny hair? Her eyes? Hermione sniffed.

Her eyes were much prettier than Ginny's! Immediately, she felt terrible. What kind of friend was she, making herself seem better than Ginny? She had never played the Comparison Game before! Now why the sudden change of heart?

A floorboard creaked, and Hermione squealed, whirling around. Harry was standing, his hands in his pockets. He looked startled, and smiled at her.

"A penny for your thoughts." Hermione giggled.

"Sorry, my thoughts are a buck a piece!" Harry laughed.

"I'd bet! I'd paid a million dollars for one of your thoughts." He walked over and looked out the window with her.

"It's...uh, a beautiful view." She nodded, clutching her books to her chest tighter.

Harry noticed, and shifted his weight from one foot to another.

"Listen, uh...this is pretty awkward, so I'm gonna leave you with your overpriced fantasies..." Hermione lunged out and grabbed his shoulder, gripping his shirt with her pale pink fingernails. Ginny had painted them.

"No! Don't go! Uh...what I meant was, it's nice to have some company for once." Tears welled in the corner of her eyes. Harry's eyes widened.

"Oh geez, Mione! Don't cry, anything but that!" He turned, cheeks pink from embarrassment.

Hermione's shoulders shook with sobs as she looked up at her best friend. He was handsome, his eyes were captivating.

"Look, I have a crush on someone, is it too much to ask that I get some love for once?" She said, tears flowing down her face. Harry shook his head.

"No, absolutely not! I just...don't think that-" Hermione was staring at him, her eyes full of hope. And without thinking, she stood on tiptoes and planted her lips on his.

Harry's eyes widened, he froze. And he stood there, frozen for about twenty seconds.

Hermione finally broke the moment, face flushed, hair standing on end. Her face was tingling and she felt...happy, but nervous as well.

"Ah...sorry!" She gasped, running down the stairwell as quick as she could go.

Oh God, why did I kiss him? He's my best friend! I can't believe I just did that! The tears had stopped, and her head was now full of twice as many thoughts than before.

Why, oh why, must love be some so confusing?

No, it's not what you think! I support Hermione and Ron, I just thought it would be cute if Hermione had her first kiss with Harry.
