Prompt taken from WriteWorld, Tumblr- He wished he could let him go, let it all go, but he knew that was impossible.

He wished he could let him go, let it all go, but he knew that was impossible.

No. Not after what he'd done.

The way he so poorly feigned intense grief about his own father's death- a father that risked all he could to protect his child. A father who did whatever he could to make sure that his son wasn't to blame for murdering thousands of people…even when it was his son who was responsible.

…A father who never found out that fact, one who didn't even realise Kira was part of the Yagami family. And he had trusted him all that time, only to die believing the son of a bitch was innocent.

If only I had the accuracy to put that damn bullet in his brain…

"Calm yourself, Matsuda. He's gone now. We don't need to worry about him now."

He lifted his head to look at Mogi. Matsuda hadn't noticed how his hand tightened and trembled around the handle of his mug.

"I know you wanted to put an end to Kira, but then that would have made you a murderer, just like him. You would have become just as bad."

Just as bad?! I would have killed one person. He killed thousands.

He took the mug of tea from the glass coffee table, sipping gently. The hot beverage seemed to pacify him slightly as it went down, and he released the fist. His thoughts whirled in his mind, a raging twister of hatred.

Mogi had a point; Kira was deceased. Gone. He was powerless, but he couldn't just let him go like this. He died alone, away from the world. Matsuda wanted the Task Force to watch him die. He wanted Kira to be staring in the face of those who ever pursuing him in his last moments. He wanted him to know that they'd won.

Damn it.

Then, he thought.

It doesn't matter. I shot him. I helped push him to his death. Even if he didn't see it, we won- no, I won.

The way he screamed out when Matsuda had shot him…

" Matsuda! You IDIOT!"

…There was something wonderfully, albeit sadistically enjoyable about it for him.

He'd heard it many a time, but Matsuda knew he was no idiot.

Would an idiot be able to take down a mass murderer?

Maybe Kira's death wasn't so bad after all.

Matsuda had got the last laugh.

Author's Note: Thank you very much for reading. I hope you enjoyed it. If not, then you have my apologies for letting you down.

I noticed that the Harry Potter fandom often uses prompts in its work, so I tried to write a one-shot from a prompt. :)
