Fate or chance brought him this thing

Riddles in the dark and vanishing

There and back again with a group of dwarves

Brought him the Dark Lord's One Ruling Ring

The Dark Lord forged it in ancient years

Awakening everyone's worst fears

In Mordor where the Shadows are

Responsible for many tiring tears.

So Frodo was told to destroy it

But feeling just a little hobbit

He hoped that in Elven-Rivendel

They'd find some for the journey better fit.

In the Cracks of Doom it was to be thrown

Orodruin, Mount Doom, from Earth and Bone

In Mordor where the Shadows are

There, the Ring could be destroyed alone.

But Frodo was still in his Shire

And though his uncle he may admire

Who traveled to and fro from mountains

He feared he would not make the fire

A dark journey before his feet

Both brave but a failure would be his deed

If not for his friends to come with him

So a conspiracy they made to meet

Black servants of Mordor haunt them in chase

Hood and cloak make invisible their face

A cry so dreadful that none can endure

Yet being to the Dark Lord but an ace

In queer old woods they meet a willow

Followed by old Tom Bombadillo

River-Daughter Goldberry by side

He counsels them "Bree is where to go".

In Bree, still pursued and very weary

A lot there is to hear and see

All that glitters is not gold

And Strider joins the company

At Weathertop in the midst of night

The company is forced to fight

Black swords give Frodo a dreary wound

And taking over them is fright

In Rivendel it is decided

The hobbits go to Mordor guided

By five companions of different race

Dwarf, men, wizard and elf keen-sighted

The Ring goes South for many sunless days

And in Moria they find a maze

A Balrog means Gandalf's end

Lothlórien now holds their gaze.
