Chapter 1: Lost Friend
Yoh Asakura looked down at the pale figure lying on the bed. It was his mentor, his friend, Anna Kyouyama. With her eyes closed, she looked so peaceful, as if she was just sleeping.
Yoh took her hand, "Anna, wake up. Please". But she didn't open her eyes.
"It's no use Yoh. She is in a coma and nothing can bring her back until her inner self is ready to face reality".
Yoh turned around and was surprised to see Yohmei Asakura, his grandfather, standing at the door. "What are you doing here, grandpa?"
Yohmei walked over to his grandson, "Morty called and told me everything. I came as soon as I could. I want you to tell me exactly what happened".
"I thought you said Morty told you everything".
"Yes but I want to hear it again, from you. Let's step outside and talk".
Again Yoh looked down at Anna. "I don't want to leave her grandpa", he whispered.
"Right now, you cannot help her Yoh. By standing here, you are only torturing yourself. Come with me", Yohmei took his grandson's hand and led him out of the room like a little boy.
Amidamaru and Morty were waiting outside. They stood up as soon as they saw Yoh. "How is she?"
"You should go see her for yourself. Right now Yoh and I need to talk", Yohmei said.
They nodded and went inside without another word.
Yohmei Asakura sat down, "now tell me, Yoh. How did it happen?"
"I- I don't know, grandpa. Morty, Amidamaru and I went outside to take a walk and when we came back, we found Anna lying on the ground. Her head was bleeding".
Yohmei nodded, "I have talked to the doctors and they said Anna was probably hit on the head with something hard, perhaps a baseball bat".
"But..but..why?"
"We will figure that out later. Tell me the rest of your story".
"Right..um.. I remember telling Amidamaru and Morty to call an ambulance. Then I walked over to Anna and sat down and then she...", Yoh paused, thinking about what happened next.
"What did she do?" Yohmei asked gently.
"She took my hand and drew some kind of a symbol on it with her..her blood", he whispered.
"Anna was trying to tell you something. Do you remember the symbol?"
"Yeah. I think so", Yoh looked at his hand and he could see the faint outline of the mysterious symbol. He took out a pen and drew it on a piece of paper and gave it to his grandfather.
Yohmei's face filled with fear as he looked at the drawing.
"What is it grandpa?"
"This symbol represents a group of people who calls themselves the Lords of Destruction. The LD's".
"The LD's? Who are they?"
"They are people just like you and me but their main goal is to destroy all Shamans," Yohmei looked at his grandson, "whoever did this Anna was looking for you, Yoh".
