He'd be lying in a bed, half-asleep and then he'd hear it. It being a soft gentle voice which he'd never forget but had been without for so long. "Kazuki," it'd say, "Kazuki..." it'd repeat, coaxing him out of sleep and into opening his eyes. Then Kazuki would see him and feel the tears well up in his eyes. There, sitting by his bed. Soushi. Gorgeous Soushi, with slightly longer hair and a slightly older face, but with the same eyes and the same calm expression, though it was now painted with a half-smile.
Then, Soushi would catch sight of Kazuki looking at him, and his half-smile would blossom into a full one. "Kazuki," he'd start, his voice so smooth and so cherished, so missed and longed for that Kazuki just wanted to drown himself in it once more. "I'm here." The simple sentence was enough to actually start the tears down Kazuki's cheeks.
"Sou...Soushi!" he'd sob out in disbelief of him being there and in relief of him finally returning. He'd sit up and practically throw himself at the other boy, but before he could actually touch him, Soushi would vanish.
Then, Kazuki wakes. He opens his eyes still wet with tears, swallows in an attempt to banish the dry feeling in his throat, tries to ignore Soushi's name still on his tongue.
It's the same dream as every time, never longer, never changing. No matter the amount of times he's had it, it still has the same effect as always. He rolls over and buries his face into his pillow, and allows himself to cry again, because, unlike the Soushi in his dream had insisted, Soushi isn't here.
He is coming back, Kazuki knows it, Soushi had promised...
But there was no telling when such a promise would be fullfilled.
Kazuki said he'd wait forever and he would...
But forever was a such a cold, numbing period of time.
