Disclaimer thingamabob: Me? Own Speed Racer? Yeah. Right. I own nothing. Except for maybe Helen, the wife I gave Rex. Other than that, I own nothing. Nothing but my life, and I probably don't own that either.

Now or Never

By: racergirl5

It's now or never. I know that the rest of my family deserves to know my newest identity, especially after Mom and Pop's death, but I can't possibly let them know that I faked my death and didn't tell them! They'd think that I'm such an idiot! But, I also know that not only am I an idiot, but if I don't tell them now, I'll never tell them. So here goes. OK, so they told me I could come in at any time, but tonight, I can't bear to do that. Not to them. Not to my brothers. I take a deep breath, and knock on the door.

Speed opened it, and slowly a look of recognition came across his face. "X? We've told you, you can just walk right in."

I bow my head slightly. "I know."

He looks at me curiously, and asks, "X…what's wrong? Wait, come on in first. You look positively frozen!" He leads me into the living room, and points to a chair.

I sit down slowly. "Speed, I have to tell you something. Something important."

"What X? Wait, do I need to get Spritle and Helen in here first?"

"Wha…NO!!! Please wait…I have to tell you first."

"Okay then X. Spit it out."

"I…Speed…I'm your brother." He sits there, eyes wide. "If you want me to go, I mean, I'll go willingly Speed. You won't have to use force on me…"

"Rex…it really is you, isn't it?"

"Yeah Speed. It's me. Do you want to kick me out of the house? Because if you tell me never to come back here, I'll listen. I promise."

But I look up to see him crying tears of joy. "Kick you out? Never." He gets up and hugs me, and slowly, tears begin to role down my face as well.

"Speed, Spritle refuses to…Speed…why are you hugging Racer X?"

"Speedy's hugging Racer X?!?! NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Spritle came running into the room, just in time to see us disengage.

I sigh. "I guess I have to tell them now?"

Speed smiles. "It's now or never Rex."

Helen frowns, and says, "Rex…" Then slowly a look of recantation comes over her face. "Rex, it is you!!!" She runs over and embraces me next.

Spritle's the only one who doesn't get it. "Why is everyone hugging the Harbinger of Boom?!?!"

Helen glances at me, and says, "I got this."

As she steers Spritle out of the room and down the hall, Speed and I hear Spritle's voice gives a yelp. "Racer X is my WHAT!?!?"

I let out a groan, and Speed glances at me. "Don't worry Rex. It's past his bedtime. He'll be better in the morning. OK so he'll be jumping around your legs, but at least he won't scream."

"Thank god," I mutter.

"Don't worry about it. You can have Mom and Pop's old room."

"Why can't I have my old room back?"

"Because," Speed says. "I'm not giving it up!" As I chase Speed around the house, I can't help but think that I did the right thing. That I truly did the right thing.
