Tatsuha silenced the television set with the remote and rested his cheek against Ryuichi's dark hair.

"Ryu…" he whispered, tightening his arms around the sleeping man.

Ryuichi stirred slightly, groaning in response.

"Thirty minutes until Christmas, Ryu…. You wanted to finish…that thing," he said cryptically, stealing a glance at the pink bunny in Ryuichi's lap.

"Mmm?" Ryuichi snuggled even closer to his young lover, nuzzling his head into Tatsuha's chest.

Honestly, Tatsuha wished they could stay like this forever, but Ryuichi had been so excited by his idea. He didn't want him to regret not having it ready on time.

Sighing, he stroked Ryuichi's hair and spoke softly. "Why don't I look after Kuma-chan while you finish wrapping your presents?" he suggested.

Ryuichi sat up with a start and stared at Tatsuha with wide eyes for a moment before thrusting the bunny at him and leaping up to bound out of the room.

Tatsuha shook his head and smiled wryly. This summed up his Ryuichi – intense, yet highly excitable.

"Come on Kuma," he said, hoisting the bunny up onto his shoulder. "Come and help me get the cake ready."

In the bedroom he regularly shared with Tatsuha Ryuichi removed a white shoebox and a small carrier bag from his wardrobe. He'd spent hours trawling the shops to find just the right shade and texture of ribbon to complement the gift he had painstakingly handcrafted.

Lifting the floppy item from the box he cut a length of the ribbon and, after several attempts, tied a perfect pink bow around it. He set it on top of the box, straightening its pink taffeta skirt, and sat back to admire his handiwork. Then he grabbed it back and cradled it to his face.

Yes, perfect. It felt just like him. Ryuichi returned it to the box and fixed the lid in place with more of the pink ribbon.

As he walked back into the living room with two boxes he swelled with joy to see his lover and his best friend talking animatedly while sitting on the floor. Apparently Kumagoro had been cheating at cards. One of Ryuichi's favourite songs was playing on the stereo.

Five minutes later Ryuichi and Tatsuha were tearing the wrapping from their gifts to one another. They looked up and smiled at each other warmly, before leaning in for a deep kiss. In their short but passionate time together they had grown to know one another so intimately that they instinctively knew each other's needs and wants.

Now they turned to Kumagoro. It seemed so right that Ryuichi should give his oldest friend in the world a gift for Christmas, but he had never done so before. It was also fitting that, since Ryuichi had finally found the love of his life, Kuma should himself have someone with whom he could spend Christmas.

Ryuichi placed the box in front of Kumagoro and took hold of one end of the bow. "This is from both of us, Kuma." Ryuichi smiled as Tatsuha took the other end of the bow. Before they pulled it open, however, Tatsuha turned to Ryuichi and whispered into his ear.

"Just one thing. Are you sure he's straight?"
