Hey everyone! Here's entry four. I wanted to do it on one of my favorite memories of summer, so here ya go!
"Jay, Jay, no, I don't think this is a good idea!" Kai screamed as Jay grabbed Kai by the arm and pulled him in.
"Come on Kai, it's perfectly safe!" Nya called out from further in the water.
Lloyd scooped up a handful of water and splashed it his way, "Seriously Kai, it's like three foot nothing here!"
Finally Jay gave up on the gradual approach to getting Kai in the lake and just shoved him under. Kai came back up and screamed some more, "You could've killed me Jay!"
Jay smiled his typical cheesy smile, "maybe, but I think the chances of me killing Cole would be more likely."
The four of them continued to banter as Cole chuckled. It was too bad he couldn't join in on this.
"I sense you are upset," Zane came up behind him and startled him.
Cole smiled meakly, "I'm fine," he paused, "actually I'm not. I just wish I could join them. "
"I get it. It's like when you're a small child and want to touch the hot stove top so bad, but you know it will burn you, so you don't."
"That's exactly how I feel Zane."
Zane sat down in the sand. Cole joined him and sighed. How long had it been since he last touched water? A year? Thirteen months?
"You know what we could do?" Zane asked.
"What's that?"
"Build a sand castle. I've never actually done that before."
Cole furrowed his brow determined to stay upset, "don't you need water to hold the sand in place?"
"We can use gloves," Zane decided and went searching for a pair of layered gloves.
When he got back, the two of them went to work shaping up the castle infrastructure. About two feet high, and they realized they had no plans.
"What are we going to do now?" Zane asked.
"It needs towers. One big one and two small ones. Then we can make a moat."
So the two got to work patting sand into swirling towers.
"I had no idea building a sand castle could be so much fun," Zane told Cole as they dug the moat.
"It is pretty relaxing," Cole agreed.
Five minutes later, they were finished.
"That turned out cool," Cole breathed.
"It did. But we're not done yet," Zane smirked if that was at all possible for a nindroid, "We still have to make the rest of the kingdom."
"Alright, what buildings are we making and how many?" Cole replied in an all business tone.
Zane rattled off a list, and they set to work again.
As they started making a watch tower, Cole decided to admit one of his childhood secrets, "You know what Zane?"
"What Cole?"
"I used to dream about living in the sand castles I built. Do you think that's weird at all?"
Zane shrugged, "why would that be weird? Sand castles seem to have way cooler architectural features than a suburban home."
"Thanks Zane," Cole smiled. He may not have gotten to swim like the others, but the time he spent making castles with Zane was far better than any dip in the ocean.
And done! I hope you all enjoyed. The story behind this is that I have family who live in Wisconsin and we visit them and go to lake Michigan every summer. There was one year my cousin broke her arm, so rather than swimming like usual we all built sand castles and dug holes to the water table together. So, question time!
Has anyone done any sort of sand castle building contest before?
Should I do more stories with Zane and Cole as the main characters?
That's all for questions. More will be up tomorrow, but until then, see ya!
