Sometimes she wishes that Mark would just barge in again.
So that they could talk about cooking.
So that they could teach Sofia about cooking. The little girl would look so cute with flour on her cheeks. Callie would come home and see them in the kitchen and roll her eyes. Arizona knows she'd be thinking that Mark was going to take over again, steal her away with the fancy cooking again. And maybe, Arizona was okay with that - Callie could pull the whole pizza, going to sex my girlfriend, leave trick and they'd have sex on the couch for an hour before she'd be able to pull her beautiful wife towards the bedroom for a shower and more non-food fun.
But Mark was gone.
Lexie is gone.
Her leg is gone.
And they are broken.
No, she is broken. Callie is strong. Callie is amazing. Callie is perfect.
Callie spent the entire time, taking care of her, while her best friend was just... gone. As much gone as her leg and yet, Callie had never stopped. Had never stopped taking care of their daughter. Had never stopped moving when she was stuck in bed, unable to...even seeming to survive.
She had always been the stronger one.
She looks up as the door opens and she still hopes it's Mark for a second.
"You will never believe the surgery I had," Callie says as she flops down next to her. "Seriously, we have to do something because I need more awesome surgeries. There's nothing better than a good surgery." Other than good sex, Arizona knows that's what she wants to say. She can see it in her wife's eyes before the realization hits. Before the plane crashes again.
"I miss Mark," She says, softly, looking at Callie. The woman looks surprised before her eyes soften. Arizona reaches out for her wife, wanting to be the caregiver for once. Needing something normal. "He was such a good cook," She says, lightly.
Callie laughs, but it turns into a sob quickly. Arizona holds the woman, running her fingers through her hair as she speaks about all the good moments (and some of the not-so-good, because really, Arizona really didn't like Mark so a long time and... well, that's who Mark was) as the woman in her arms breaks down. Finally.
