Leah began to look forward to her weekly meetings with Carlisle.
That should have been her first sign.
She never got tired of the way his cold, pale hand gently held her arm as he tested her, and how he said her name in a voice that was impossibly warm for a creature so cold.
That should have been her second sign.
Then she started noticing little things about him, how he ran his hand through his hair when he was confused, how his eyes were a shade of gold that the rest of the Cullens could never accomplish.
That should have been her third sign.
The signs never meant anything to Leah; she never put the pieces together.
But now, it was time for her to face the impossible facts.
She had fallen in love with Carlisle Cullen.
