Author's Note: Ello, mates. Finally got my computer back to normal, so I've been on a writing frenzy! Can't get too carried away though… EOCT's next week… :( I decided to do something a little different… Kain/Ruka? Hmmm? Please enjoy! Please Review!
I looked over to where Kaname was dancing with Yuki. I envy her so. It's no consolation that she obviously doesn't care for him that way- she only has eyes for Zero Kiryu, the vampire hunter. I only wish Kaname could see that.
I end my musings with a sigh and look up to observe the dance taking place around me. The day class students bustle around, trying to look graceful in front of Aido and Kain.
… Kain? Why does it bother me that they should like him? They like everybody. Of course Kain wouldn't be any different.
But it still rubbed me. I made my way over to the cousins to tell those day class girls making eyes at them to have some class when Kain caught my eye and smiled. I quickened my pace.
Upon my arrival, most of the day class girls backed off. Kain laughed when I glared at their rapidly retreating figures.
"So," he began in his deep drawl, "Are we having fun yet, Lady Souen?"
I laughed without humor. My eyes drifting toward Kaname, still making Yuki suffer through yet another dance… And back to Kain.
He nodded in understanding. "I know, Ruka. I know. That's what it's like."
I squinted in confusion. Who had made him feel the way I was feeling? "How do you… What do you mean?"
He looked at me pointedly, though I couldn't guess at the point, even as he spoke. "I know what it's like to watch the one you long pining for someone who loves another."
I looked at him for a moment. What ever could he mean? I wasn't sure. But something in his tome made me a bit uncomfortable. I shifted my gaze elsewhere, searching for a new subject.
"Would you like to dance, Kain? I usually wouldn't ask, but you look like you need cheering up."
He nodded and muttered something. I distinctly heard "Kaname" and "jealous". I imagined all sorts of terrible meanings for this.
But he took my arm anyway and led me to the dance floor. The Day Class students cleared a path, and soon we were whirling. The singer droned on about how beautiful his girl was, but I wasn't really listening.
Kain was really very captivating when he danced.
The song faded to one even slower, and couples around us pulled each other closer. Kain pulled me closer, too. Our eyes met and something clicked.
"Earlier, you meant…" Me. Though I didn't say it aloud, it echoed in my mind. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.
Kain dropped his gaze for a moment before leading me off the floor. As soon as we were away form the dancers, he left my side, disappearing into the crowd.
"Kain…" I murmured. As I made my way to find him, something occurred to me.
For supposedly brilliant creatures, vampires can all be so thick sometimes. And this, I new, was not a revelation that would change everything, but a revelation none the less.
