Hermione was absolutely furious. She didn't know what to think. The evening was supposed to perfect. For once she felt beautiful, and confident. She was determined to show everyone that she wasn't just a bookish nerd. She was more than that.
The ball had started out great. Viktor had been a complete gentleman, and she had danced like she'd never danced before. But trust Ronald to ruin everything.
She flopped down onto the stairs, kicking her heels off. A couple of girls were bawling a few feet away from her. Hermione rolled her eyes. She wasn't going to be weak, wasn't going to cry. Not for Ron. But as soon as the thought came to her, the effect was the opposite. She buried her face in her dress, not wanting anyone to see the tears.
It was when she felt a hand gently touch her arm that she lifted her head. She half-expected it to be Ron. Maybe he finally had had the sense to apologize. It wasn't Ron though.
It was Draco Malfoy.
Hermione shrugged off his hand roughly. "Leave me alone Malfoy," she said, her voice thick with hatred. She was already feeling worthless, and Malfoy insulting her wasn't really what she needed to cheer her up.
Draco let out a low chuckle. "I don't expect this to cross your mind, but I might actually be here to ask what's wrong."
Hermione snorted. "What do you care?"
He settled down slowly next to her. "I care enough to comfort a girl when she's upset actually. Even though I shouldn't, considering the fact that you punched me in the face in our third year."
Hermione found herself smiling. "You were being an arse," she said.
"I guess I was. But even you have to admit, Potter and Weasley are extremely infuriating sometimes," said Draco.
At the mention of his name, Hermione found a tear make it's way down her cheek. She wiped it away quickly. But not before Draco had noticed. "So, are you going to tell me why you're crying or not?" he asked gently.
"It's just Ron being Ron," she said spitefully. "He can't handle that for once, I might actually have found myself and that I might have my own identity!"
"This evening was supposed to be everything I wanted it to be," she said sighing softly.
Draco hesitantly reached out for her hand. Hermione jerked up her head towards him, startled. But she didn't pull away.
"It could still be…" whispered Draco softly.
"Yeah, it could," she whispered back smiling.
Maybe Hermione had been right all along. The Yule Ball really was where you explored new friendships…and relationships. And later that evening, when she found herself dancing with Draco and actually feeling happy, she decided that she was sure of it.
So I know this is short, but I really wanted to write a Dramione one-shot. I think they would have been very cute together 3 I hope you liked it :)
