Just a little piece of fluff to tie us over until House comes back from the break. I don't own House or the Snow Patrol in the title. Hope you like it!
At eight thirty on a Friday night, House and Cameron sat comfortably beside each other on his couch in front of the TV. This was a typical evening for them since they had become a couple three months ago. House often made dry jokes about how her young person's life had been cut short because of her need to care for a "senior citizen", although she claimed there was nothing she'd rather be doing.
Earlier that evening, when House had insisted that they watch "The L Word", she had been intently working on her cross-stitch, wearing those glasses he secretly found so adorable.
Now, she sat watching "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." House told her it was a sappy show, but he didn't really mind watching it because he loved it when she tried to pretend she wasn't welling up. He hated how enticing he found all her annoying habits to be.
Tonight, however, House had something on his mind. On this particular Friday evening, he felt different. He felt like something was about to change.
He looked over at Cameron. She looked so beautiful with the blue lights from the TV flickering over her porcelain face. He turned and looked stonily at the TV, and before he could change his mind he said those three words. "I love you."
He felt her tense up beside him. She said nothing and he immediately began to regret his impulsive decision. He refused to look at her and reached for his cane. Just as he was about to rise to his feet, he felt her warm hand on his arm. He turned towards her, still not making eye contact.
Inside, Cameron was fighting all the things she wanted to say. She knew that this was a huge step for him, one he hadn't taken in a long time, and she didn't want to scare him away, but at that moment she found herself wishing she could pour it all out.
Instead, she slowly leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. He was stiff for a minute; then he relaxed. He put his arms around her and pulled her closer.
"I love you too," she said softly. His blue eyes lit up briefly; then he returned to his usual unreadable expression.
"No need to repeat everything I say," he sniffed.
So there you go. Please review!
