Short. Sweet. Kind of a Drabble. This is just what I imagine happening if Lily ever fancies Remus, which I suspect with how close their friendship was, would have happened. Setting: 6th Year

"So, will you?" Lily concluded. She had been talking to Remus during prefect rounds when she had made her move and asked him to go to Hogsmeade with her.

The male Gryffindor prefect gave her a small smile. "I'm sorry Lily, but I can't."

"You can't or you won't?"

"I can't," Remus replied softly.

"Because of Potter," she accused. When Remus made no move to correct her, she fumed. "He bloody ruins all my chances at relationships! He scares off my dates before we even a have a chance to go on the date! And now he's doing it again! I don't know why you're even friends with him, let alone let him control your life!"

Remus shook his head. "He's not controlling my life. I'm fully capable of making my own decisions, and I'm making this decision on my own. I could never do this to him. You know how he feels about you!"

"Never do this to him? He doesn't deserve your compassion! He doesn't even have a chance with me!"

"You could give him one," Remus suggested quietly. "Because he does deserve my compassion. He deserves everything from me because he has given me everything and more. I wish you could see that. He really is a great guy."

Lily huffed. This conversation wasn't going as she had hoped. "Well, if he is such a great guy, then I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you accompanied me to Hogsmeade. He'd understand."

"No, he wouldn't. He wouldn't understand how someone who is practically his brother could not care how he would feel. James would hurt from this. He'd see it as a betrayal. He cares about you more than you know."

Lily was defeated. "Okay Remus. I wish I saw the same guy you saw, but I don't. I can't see past his bullying. But I respect your decision."

Remus hugged her. "Thank you Lily. Maybe we can meet up at Three Broomsticks for a Butterbeer."

"Yeah, that sounds great. See you,"

"See you Lils,"

Lily was sad. Upset. And she had every right to be, seeing as she was just rejected by the boy she fancied. As usual, James Freaking Potter had stood in the way. He always tormented the blokes she dated. Some were too afraid to even go out with her. She had hoped it would be different since Remus and him were friends. But once again, Potter had still stood in the way. He always did.
