A/N: I got a bit tired of all the "Woe is me -sob-!" KH deathfics, so here's something a bit fluffier. I do not own Kingdom Hearts, or it's characters. Please review!
Xemnas should have been upset at his 'defeat'.
As he felt his body and life draining away, the last Organization member thought that he should have felt angry, in despair, vengeful… some sort of rending, red-hot hatred, perhaps.
But all he could feel, all he could taste, was the sweet joy of freedom.
Freedom.
It was something Xemnas though that he'd lost, long ago, along with his heart… something that he would never get back until Kingdom Hearts was complete. But as he closed his eyes and died his 'second death' as it were, just as he'd died before to become the Nobody that was now fading away into whatever lay beyond, he knew somehow that he'd never lost it at all…
…Merely misplaced it temporarily. Until now.
Opening his eyes, Xemnas looked down on the worlds, an overwhelming sense of peace flooding his body. Raising one hand to his chest, he smiled. He knew the truth now, the truth that evaded him when he was alive.
"Superior."
Turning, the silver-haired man locked eyes with his second-in-command, and behind Saix in the distance, across the seemingly endless, emerald field, were ten more familiar figures… waiting. Smiling and revealing the barest hint of ivory fangs, Saix held out his hand, inviting the last member to the final world.
The truth seemed so simple now. Their hearts hadn't been waiting in some obscure location behind some gate in the physical… Rather, behind that last gate that all mortals must one day pass.
"Welcome home," Saix purred, his golden eyes alight with a joy and passion that Xemnas hadn't witnessed for far too long.
Taking the outstretched hand, Xemnas walked with Saix across the field and into the light…
Their kingdom was waiting.
