It is strange how so little is known about the killing curse, when it is a spell of such great power. But of course, nothing could be known of it, other than the job it does, for no-one survives it.
Apart from that blasted Potter, but I refuse to sully my afterlife thinking about such riff raff. Perfect Potter, saviour of the wizarding world. He knew nothing of hardships; nothing.
As I was saying, very little is known about the killing curse. For instance, it is not known that there is a moment of absolute clarity before everything stops. In that moment, you know all that there is to know - more, even. Everything that has ever been, will ever be, might ever be, flashes past in an infinitesimal amount of time, yet you can see it all vividly.
The things which catch your eye are surprising.
For instance, a Slytherin muggle-hater might see the day he could have, if he had lived to re-take his seventh year, co-operated with a Gryffindor mudblood over a Potions project.
He might see her smile at him.
He might see their first step towards friendship … and something more.
He might see their first kiss.
First date.
Proposal, wedding, child.
Old age.
Something he might identify as happiness.
A strange side effect, wouldn't you say?
I am in Kings Cross Station. The platform is somewhat crowded, but I am standing apart from the others. I can see a Weasley, one of the twins, but I certainly won't be making conversation with him. Or Aunt Bellatrix, although she does appear to be remarkably more lucid than I can ever remember seeing her before.
There is a woman with blue hair next to that Lupin fellow. I remember hearing of her, vaguely … Nymphadora, I think she is called. My cousin. I do not particularly want an encounter with my old professor, but it might be good to meet a new relative; eternity spent alone would be dreadfully boring.
It might pass the time before this blasted train arrives, anyway.
And it might help to take my mind off the witch I hadn't realised I loved.
A/N : Very short and a little odd, but I like it, and I hope that you do, too :D Feel free to take a wander over to the forum that I have created, The Butterbeer Club. It is a place to chat about all things Harry Potter, as well as to find challenges, recommendations and inspiration, leave plot bunnies and do a bit of shameless self-promotion :P
