Hey this is ShineyLane1.2.
This takes place at the beginning of War Stories. Thanks and review honestly =D
River was having yet another bad day. The morning was okay, she was chased playfully by Kaylee after taking her apple. That was fun, she sprinted around the cargo bay until Kaylee caught up with her. But then the past caught up with her. Knew little bits of information; enough to make her frightened out of her mind, but not enough to fill the gaps. As she sat on Simon's bed, she had forgotten everything that took place the last few months. She had a fleating moment of confusion- where was she? Her eyes bounced around the room, frantically.
"Simon?" she asked, lost in doubt. There was no answer. "Simon?" she repeated.
Why am I in a Firefly class transport ship? She asked herself as she rewrapped the blanket around he shoulders. All the thoughts flew back to her and she remembered where she was. Although she was satisfied with the memory, she still felt lost. Everything she remembered from the Alliance made her wince.
There's no way out. One of them will turn us in again, just like Jayne. Not matter what she said to anyone, she came across as crazy. Even in Ariel, River had tried to explain to Simon, or anyone, how Jayne was trying to turn them in. She knew from the moment they were in the hospital, yet nobody listened to her. They always took it the wrong way, no one understood except her. No matter how hard she tried, nothing ever went the way she wanted to.
"Two by two, hands of blue." She spoke in a hushed whisper. What did that even mean? Nobody knew, not even River- yet it invaded her mind constantly. "Two by two, hands of blue." She felt the tears well up in her eyes. What am I saying? This was two much for a teenager. I never know what I'm saying.
She tried to keep her emotions under control, which she could do sometimes, but not others.
She heard someone enter through the door and as she peered over she saw it was her brother. He must've seen her pale face and reacted fast.
"Whoah! Mei-mei, how are you doing?" he asked, grasping her in his arms.
"I threw up." She stared past Simon's face.
"I'm sorry, it's a side effect. We just have to find the right treatment for you. How do you feel?"
Right treatment? Please. Why don't you just leave me alone, treat me like everyone else?
"Goind. Going, back like the apple bits coming back up. Chaos." More jiberish from her mind that she tried to explain, but knew he wouldn't understand.
"But you felt okay this morning…"
How is that relevant?
She smiled at the memory of the happiness she experienced hours before. "Played with Kaylee, the sun came out and I walked on my feet, heard with my ears…" she began to break down, "I hate the bits, the bits that stay down and I work, I function like I'm a girl. I hate it because I know it'll go away, the sun goes dark and chaos is come again." She tears came now, "Bits. Fluids. What am I?"
Simon held her tighter now, comforting her from herself.
"You are my beautiful sister." He stroked her hair. River remembered what she had to tell him and felt somewhat quilty.
"I threw up on your bed," she said with a sob. He stopped stroking her hair and River knew his eyes had closed.
"Yep," he patted her shoulder, "definitely my sister."
She smiled, everything was back to normal—although River knew the discomforting feeling that it would not last. Something would happen sooner or later. But for now, she needed to enjoy the moment of siblinghood with Simon.
Two by two, she remembered, hands of blue…
