A/N- Hi! This is a story I've been working on for a little while, and I decided to post it! Chapter is short, but it's just how I got started. Second chapter is longer but not super long. Long chapters for me can get up to 5-6 pages :p not much. This story is inspired by Returning Echoes by Silkendreammaid. Yeah... so, like, hate, please tell me!
Disclaimer: In my dreams I own Roy ;) but that's about it.
Chapter 1: The Purple Flamingo
"Hey Ed, let's stop there for the night. It looks nice and I'm hungry." Alphonse Elric pointed to a small but nice looking little inn on the side of the road. "We can go to the Eiffel Tower tomorrow. Besides, I'm hungry."
Edward started to shake his head when his stomach growled its disagreement. "Alright, fine," Ed sighed in defeat. With a grin, Al headed towards the inn titled, "The Purple Flamingo." Ed smiled at the name and followed his brother inside.
"We'll take any room you've got. Just one night though," Al was saying as Ed walked through the door.
The innkeeper, who looked to be around Ed's age, nodded and handed Al a key. "Dinner's in an hour." The younger Elric nodded and headed up the wooden stairs with his brother close behind.
One staircase, a few misturns, and many curses later, Edward and Alphonse were unpacking in their small but comfortable room. Ed had claimed the bed next to the window, so Al was unpacking his belongings next to the bed by the wall.
When Ed could no longer hear Al unpacking, he looked up. His younger brother sat on the bed with a shirt in his hands, only half out of the suitcase. Al was staring off into space, with a vacant look in his eyes. Ed knew exactly what his sibling was thinking about. "Thinking about home again Al?"
Al snapped back into reality. "Well... kind of. I was thinking about Winry. How do you think she's doing? What do you think she's doing?"
Ed leaned back and rested hid head on his arms. "I don't know Al. She's probably at home in Risembool, taking something apart. Or maybe she's whacking someone on the head with that wrench of hers." He smiled when he heard Al's laugh. "I'm sure she's fine Al, don't worry about it." They finished unpacking in silence, then headed down for dinner.
In the dining room, Ed held a piece of food on his fork and was eying it suspiciously. "Hey Al, do you think this is a flamingo? It does have a kind of purple sheen..."
Al laughed. "No brother, it's chicken. And I think you're seeing things. There's no purple." Ed took a bite cautiously and discovered he liked it. He quickly devoured the rest of the food on the plate while Al continued eating at a slower pace.
After dinner, the Elric brothers headed back up to their rooms. They were both exhausted, so they didn't waste much time on talking, rather, they quickly got ready for bed.
Just before Ed fell asleep, he heard Al say, "Brother, I miss Amestris."
Ed replied, "Me too Al, me too."
