He wandered through the trees of the forest, eyes drifting past countless things that use to enthrall him with their beauty. His feet stepped with surety despite his scant attention and his grey eyes looked past and in between to memories.
Somewhere in time I know
Darling you'll come back to me.
He kept picturing his face with all of its multitude of expressions. The way he looked in battle, the way he looked sleeping, the way he looked... It still was too recent, his passing. Their time together had been too short. The briefness of his mortal life too dear. And though the spring surrounded the forest with beauty he was still lost in the winter of their last moments together.
Roses will bloom again
But spring feels like eternity.
He had died in his arms, not from any wound or sickness but simple mortality. That was the dream of any warrior. True. But he had lost him until his own death, which was too far. He had ages and ages before him. And yet without him he could not help but look forward to that last journey.
In your kiss it wasn't goodbye.
You are still the reason why...
He returned to his rooms and restlessly picked up and replaced object after object. Too many memories. In the quiet of his room the ghosts of the past haunted him. Remembered moments and whispered words of love resounded in his ears.
I can still hear you whispering in the silence of my room.
My heart still surrenders like the sun to the moon.
He slid to the floor, grasping the blanket that still had the faint scent of him in its folds. His heart ached with a pain that increased with every beat. His soul cried with every breath.
I can barely stand this aching, burning endlessly.
The way he had looked in his eyes as he lay there, so full of love and compassion. And all he could do was cry as he slipped away. He had brushed his tears with his fingers and whispered.
"Love me now forever"
Were the last words you said to me.
He lay without sleeping, tossing and turning throughout the night and reaching for something. Anything. When the sun broke over the room he had not slept. His arms outstretched, clasping at nothing.
And when the morning comes
My hands reach out for you.
When he heard the music that they had first danced together to, he ran. And standing out in the rain, he hid his tears. Dropping and mixing together into pools.
Some things remain the same
There is nothing I can do.
He couldn't eat, he couldn't sleep. He knew he was worrying the others, but he couldn't seem to care. He was waiting for someone who wasn't there, everyone else was meaningless.
I can barely get through the day
Ever since you went away.
He was fading. It was the calling of the sea in his mind's eye. The sound of the waves was his lover's whispers. He would not remain long.
Heaven help us cross this endless sea
With starlight above to guide you to me.
He leaned back against a tree, looking at the way the dewdrops sparkled on the leaves. Soon he would come to take him with him in death's embrace. And then. Then they would no longer be apart.
Waves crashing on distant shores
They're calling our names forever more.
He sighed as his eyes slowly drifted closed. Grey eyes dimming. In the distance he heard his lover whispering. But it seemed as if he was also right next to him.
Love me now forever.
