Percy and Annabeth are just about to the doors of Death, and Percy is very happy, then he shoves Annabeth forward towards Nico, who's standing on the other side. Nico catches Annabeth and Percy goes to shut the doors, just as they're closing, Annabeth realizes what happened and whips around. She sees Percy's face in the gap, he screams one thing: "I love you" and shuts the doors. Annabeth lunges for the doors screaming bloody murder and presses her palms and forehead on the cold doors. Then she hears Percy's voice whispering from the other side of the door. "Annabeth. Annabeth. You can't be miserable for the rest of your life." He says. "Annabeth let me go. Please, let me go! Release me." He begs her. But she's sobbing at the door while the rest of the 7 and Nico stand behind watching painfully. "Percy. Percy I can't. I love you I can't!" She moans. "Please." He says. "Release me. But just remember. I will always love you." "Ok" she sobs then, Leo steps forward. "Annabeth" he murmurs in her ear. "What—what did you hear?" "He, he wants me t-to release him" She sobs hysterically. "I can help you." He says. "But I don't know how! I don't want to! She moans "Annabeth, take my hands." Leo whispers, holding his hands out to her. "I'll help you let go." And when Annabeth looked him in the eyes, she saw Leo in an entirely different view. He wasn't fidgeting; his face was full of pain. And Annabeth realized that Leo knew EXACTLY how she felt. She pulled her hands from the door and placed them in his calloused ones; "I want you to close your eyes." He said gently. "Close your eyes and think of ever single memory you have ever shared with—with Percy. Think of every happy moment, ever time you wanted to yell at him. Ever second you saw his eyes. Think of his being. Think of him. And once you have collected every memory of him, take a deep breath and say this; 'I release you Percy Jackson." Annabeth sat there, her hands in Leo's for minutes, and she did exactly as Leo said. Percy had given her one last request. And even though she hated to do it. She knew she had to do what Percy said. "I release you Percy Jackson" she said "Let all your emotions fall out." Said Leo. And Annabeth began to sob. "Horrible, heart broken sobbing" and she fell forward into Leo's arms, and sobbed into his shoulder until she couldn't cry any more. And finally, she breathed deeply. And pulled away. "Thank you Leo." She said. "Don't look back." He whispered. And following Percy's Last Wish, she managed to rise and stumble into the other five. They gathered around her and every one hugged. Piper was wiping silent tears from her cheeks, Jason wrapping his arm around her shoulders. Hazel, with her eyes averted pressing herself to Frank, who held her protectively. Nico too, stood right next to Hazel, looking horribly pale and weak. And Leo. And even though Percy was gone. She still had a family. She didn't look back.
