To Be Led

He's generous. He's kind. He knows how to be in charge. But he lets me.

She's generous. She's kind. She knows how to be in charge. But she lets me.

I don't know if it's my masculine personality or my authoritative voice, but they both listen to me. They both do what I ask.

But maybe, I wonder, if that's really what I want. Of all the people in the army, I sought out the two most flexible leaders.

I walked by his tent today. He smiled at me.

I walked by her tent today. She smiled at me.

Towards them, I smiled back. And today, I was going to give them a challenge. I asked the general if I could borrow his headband.

"Oh, sure," he responded, giving it to me. I tied it around my eyes. "Uhh…" he began, as I walked out of the tent, right into the flap. I fell on my back.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"I'm fine, please, don't worry about me, General," I lied. I couldn't lose face… not in front of him. My desire to be dominated only goes as far as those two. On the battlefield, I want to be in charge.

"You don't look okay," he responded. He lifted me and carried me to my cot… at least I assume it was mine but, with my being blindfolded, he could have dropped me in anyone's bed from Soren's to Heather's.

"I'll go tell Oscar and Sigrun what happened," he said and then I heard him leave the room. I felt humiliated. They couldn't know. If they knew, perhaps they wouldn't be my friends anymore.

I heard a soft male voice whispering in my ear, "I heard you fell down."

A sweet female voice called after, "That's why you shouldn't run around camp blindfolded."

"I know," I said, "But I was trying to prove a point."

"Prove a point?" Oscar asked, "You have nothing to prove to me."

"I do so!" I argued.

"And what is that?" Sigrun asked.

"Oscar," I said, "You're a legal guardian. You have to take care of two little brothers."

"Technically, Mist takes care of Boyd now," Oscar answered, "But what does that have to do with you being blindfolded?"

"And you, Sigrun," I continued, ignoring Oscar's question, "You're my boss."

"Well, yes, but…" she said, "You're the disciplinary one."

"Yeah… but my point is maybe, I don't want to be in charge all the time!"

"Well, you could have just said so, silly!" Oscar said, "Then you wouldn't have hurt yourself."

"I'm just so embarrassed that you guys know…" I responded, and I'm sure I was blushing.

"We love you anyway," Sigrun responded to me. Oscar showed his agreement by kissing my forehead.

The next day, Sigrun and Oscar both got up in the morning and they blindfolded me.

"Come on, Tanith," Sigrun said, "We're going to a place and not telling you where."

"Yeah," Oscar said, "Good luck finding your way without us!" But he wouldn't let me go. Neither would she. Both were taking me away. I smiled softly.

Oscar and Sigrun took me to a fancy restaurant. Oscar ordered my entrée and Sigrun ordered my drink. I was slightly offended by the fact that Oscar referred to me as "milady" due to the fact that that put me higher; but hey, it's what he does.

Then when it was time to go back to camp, they re-blinded me and led me back to my cot.

"How was that?" Sigrun asked.

"Perfect," I responded, "It couldn't have been better."

She kissed my cheek goodnight. I smiled.

He kissed my cheek goodnight. I smiled.

Sigrun and Oscar both left the room, and I was left with my dreams.
