The Truth Defined

"Will you the fuck stop it!" Scully screamed.
"Like hell I will! You started off this whole crap!" Mulder was fuming. They had started fighting over this stupid little file, but he very well knew that this was only the cause, not the real reason for their fight. It had been overdue for weeks, or maybe months, actually, with tension building up until it finally exploded over the smallest thing.
"Damn your fucking science, Scully! Who is it who's right in 99% of all cases, you or me? YOU OR ME?" With the last words his voice rose high enough for the whole building to hear. He briefly wondered what Scully's neighbors would think, but at the moment it didn't mean shit to him.
Suddenly Scully's voice dropped below zero, "Oh, sure. 99% of all cases." Then she stood before him, shouting in his face, "Without MY FUCKING SCIENCE you'd be right in 100% of all cases 'cause you wouldn't even realize it when you're wrong!"
"Without your fucking science I'd be able to capture the truth without you denying it each and every time!"
"The truth - You wouldn't even recognize your DAMN TRUTH if it weren't for me to prove it true! You can't distinguish the real truth from the lies you want to believe!" She was absolutely enraged. This was getting to the core, and he was about to deny her a reason for existence.
But that last argument hit home. He remembered his excitement about the alien body discovered in the Yukon mountains, and his unwillingness to believe that it was fake. He stared at her reddened face.
"Damn you for being right all the time!" He grabbed her and kissed her hard. "Did I ever tell you how sexy you look when you're screaming at me?"
To his infinite surprise, she laughed! "Damn you for being so stubborn, Mulder! I was wondering how long it would take for you to crack!" She grabbed his hand and pulled him towards her bedroom, "C'mon, we've got some evidence to examine!"
An hour later, Scully lay wrapped up in her partner's arms, still exhausted, wondering why she hadn't recognized this way earlier. "If this isn't the truth, Mulder, I don't know *what* is."

The End!!
