Prologue

"Find him. Find him safe." Barely audible, and hardly carried to his ears through the mayhem that surrounded the three boys.

Not the vaguest illusion of rational thought permeated his mind beyond this necessity. Despite the roar of adrenaline fed white noise filling his ears, the utterance of these words resonated throughout his body. There was nothing of greater importance, his entire existence hung upon the genuine horror and desperate prayer that the words imparted.

"Find him Daisuke. Find him safe." repeated in the face of near collapse, using the full support of both of Taichi's arms, Yamato's words hung still in the air and wouldn't have felt more solid if he'd carved them from stone. Two separate statements, but neither was a request, there were no alternatives to the outcome, this was a demand.

Two blue eyes stabbed at him, taking on a razor sharp edge that dug into his skin and jolted Daisuke into action. The younger boy shot past his mentors, who were making slow progress toward the main intersection where aid cars were just now pouring into view of the hundreds of people rushing away from the now burning wreckage that hardly a half hour prior had been Tokyo Intl. Exhibition Center.

He forced himself through the myriad of bodies spilling past him, the chaos driven mass stampeding in any direction but the one he fought to travel. Struggling against the current of survivors he refused to allow himself to be pushed the wrong way.

The panic stricken crowd thinned as his feet found purchase on the cement steps that gave ascent to the main entrance of the disaster. He stepped through the shattered glass door, slowing so as not to slip on the shards that lay scattered for yards. Almost as if it had been chasing behind him as he tore up toward the building, conscious thought returned as his pace faltered. The happenings of only three months earlier flooding into his mind, and along with them, the face of a boy. Through the smoke, rich mahogany eyes scanned the faces of the few people he passed stumbling toward the exit, none matched the face he sought, none would offer the relief it would bring. Hair the color of a wheat field, that would shine the same way when tousled by the wind, with eyes to match the sky.

A smile that lit the world, and warmed everything it touched.

As Daisuke hurried forward down the large dark corridor, steering through downed pillars and smoldering rubble, he couldn't help but realize how this place felt so close to the world he'd made for himself over the past few months. Both were so dim, bleak, and filled with uncertainty. He was without the sky, without his sun. This was the world that would forever be if he didn't find him.

Authors note: I know there isn't much to this so far, hardly a beginning. I just wanted to get something up while I work on the first chapter. I've noticed I procrastinate less if I've left something publically unfinished. ^^;;
