Life sucks... I should know.
I'd never given much thought for how much my life meant to others, like a wave it surged into my mind, all the people who would grieve for me: Jacob? Maya, my parents, my pack, the Cullens? It struck my heart to think I would hurt them by dieing, but it was too late now, and there was no going back, I stared into the vampires mesmerizing eyes, trying to fight through the haze the vampire had planted around me. Surely it would be fine to die, they'd be in far less danger, I shook my head to clear the thought that wasn't mine, in response the haze crept closer, wrapping me tighter, the hunter stepped forward leisurely, as though he had all the time in the world, I fought to open my lips, "You... are too... Cowardly to... fight me one... on... one?" I asked, my voice coming out in strangled gasped, the vampire look insulted, "You wouldn't be... strong enough... and you know it." I sneered, the vampire cocked his head then stepped forward, untying the string the held me so fast, he was surprised to see it fall apart in his hands - my plan B. I allowed myself a small smile at the look of surprise on his face, then I bolted through the trees to a clearing I knew well.
I deliberated on whether or not to go back to my house, but I knew another vampire from the same coven had tracked my sister there, I didn't want her to have to fight two vampires at once. I tried to push all images of my family and other loved ones out of my head, I needed to focus on the fight, a few seconds after me, the vampire flew across the clearing, taking a fighting stance. I mirrored his pose, hoping to confuse him, it didn't work. This vampire didn't deliberate on subtlety, and flew straight at me, I was preoccupied on how to mimic his move, and didn't see him coming, he thrust out his hand, right into my ribs, breaking some in the process, I flew backwards into a massive boulder, and it burst into rubble, sharp rock shards flew at my face, and I had to roll out of the way to avoid them, every time I moved it sent a searing bolt of pain into my side, causing me to moan in agony, the vampire chuckled as he stepped forward, I heard a scream coming from the direction of the house, it sounded distinctly like one of my loved ones', tears streamed down my cheeks as I realized that whoever it was, it was too late for them, my heart gave a squeeze as the adrenaline washed out of me, and I prepared to say goodbye to the life I had once treasured, I knew there was no point fighting back, I couldn't win in a condition like this, I closed my eyes, and felt cold marble press upon my skin.
