The weather matched Jacob's mood. Rain drizzled down the windows of his car and outside the sky was grey. Jacob could see flashes of lightning in the distance. He hoped his car wouldn't get hit. He was still a long way from home.
The car was approaching a narrow bridge. Jacob knew that underneath the bridge was a big drop, so he slowed down to gain more control of the car. He tried focusing on the road ahead, but it was difficult with so much rain pelting down onto the windscreen, even as the wipers worked as fast as possible to clear up the rain. As Jacob started driving onto the bridge, his heart skipped a beat. Standing on the edge of the bridge, on the wrong side of the rails and gazing into the water was a person. In the split second it took Jacob's brain to process what it was that he was seeing, he noticed that it was a woman, with long hair. She wasn't wearing a raincoat, just a purple t-shirt. She didn't seem to notice the rain or him.
She teetered forward, seemingly about to let go of the railing. Jacob quickly opened his car door.
"No! Wait!" he yelled.
The woman whirled around, startled. The action made her lose her balance and she started to fall. Her eyes met Jacob's, and his world stopped. And then she was gone.
