100 word drabble. I wanted to try something John-centric. The next chapter for Burning Bright is moving slowly, but hopefully it'll be up in the next few weeks.

Around John Winchester's neck was a long metal chain that carried his dog tags from the war. After Mary's death they came to him with sad looks in their eyes and presented him with things they had salvaged from the inferno; her ring among them. Now he carried that around the chain on his neck as well, letting it weigh him down. Eventually he added his own ring as well. Sorrow pressed on him for a long time. One day his boys pressed a small locket into his hand. The addition of a family photograph made the chain suddenly featherlight.
