A small, mousy boy,
Timid and afraid,
Follows in the shadows of the confident.
From the safety of the darkness,
Nervous eyes watch the dangerous world.
Once,
The dark gaze lights on a flash of gold.
Curls that frame a face of silent strength
Captivate his attention.
But the shining sapphire eyes
Never turn to the shadows,
Never meet his.
He remains watching,
Only watching.
Love never looks to the shadows.
A ragged, scarred boy,
Agonized and longing,
Stands in the shadows of unwarranted hatred.
Held back by cursed chains,
Wolf's eyes watch and wish for the freedom of others.
Once,
His sorrow is eased by a lilting laugh.
Bright hair and brighter eyes that see to the soul
Offer him precious moments of respite.
But still,
The shadows surround him,
The chains of ice inescapable.
He remains longing,
Ever longing.
Love never looks to the shadows.
A defensive, prankster boy,
Weary and torn,
Flees in the shadows of rebellion.
Deceitful eyes search for peace,
For an end to the acting.
Once,
A breath of calm finds his frenzied heart.
Mint eyes and openly honest expressions
Spark in him a desire to change.
But the red and gold badge on his chest
Brands his judgment each time he sees her silver and green,
His pride restraining any action.
He remains wishful,
Always wishful.
Love never looks to the shadows.
A lost, unseen boy,
Aching and defensive,
Drowns in the shadows of society.
Dark eyes beg for release,
While expecting only rejection.
Once,
His pain is soothed by a ray of hope.
Living fire and emerald eyes
Steal his frozen heart.
But more than one thief
Roams abroad,
One who steals her away.
He remains bitter,
Forever bitter.

Authoress's Note: Sprouted from my obsession with SevLily and the curious wonder if Sirius had ever fallen for a girl at Hogwarts. I decided each of the boys had a story to tell (even James, in his mighty three lines of being mentioned, haha). In case I wasn't clear, the first stanza is Peter's, second is Lupin, third is Sirius, and fourth is Severus (and mini James, the only one to get a happy ending here).
