Time of the Darkness
It had been nearly a month since the Doctor and Sophie had tired to solve the mystery of Sophie's death, and failed. Since then the Doctor had pretended like it never had happened. He went dancing around the consol room like it was his own private playground, not a care in the world. How the Doctor kept that mentality in all that he and Sophie did, all that they saw. The death and illness, all the pain, most of which they had to fix, Sophie didn't know. Now Sophie sat on the edge of a chair, waiting for the rumble and shudder of the TARDIS landing. The Doctor had told her that they would be going some where special or something like that. The room Sophie was sitting in shook violently, throwing Sophie off the chair. Sophie pulled herself into the fetal position as books and vases crashed onto the floor around her. When it was all over the ground was covered with pieces of shattered pottery. The walls of the TARDIS still groaned as Sophie made her way to the consol room. She found the Doctor there leaning on the hexagonal shaped control panel. "Well, well," he said as Sophie entered. "Sorry for the rough landing, the ground was seemingly closer then it appeared." He grinned as he finished his sentence. "So, what's the big surprised Doctor?" Sophie asked exasperated. The Doctor clapped his hands together and skipped down the stairs. "Come and find out." He said darkly. Sophie chased after him, pulled the door open and looked around. "Welcome to Atlantis!" The Doctor shout echoed down the long hallways. The hallway was dimly lit and damp; a musty smell crawled up Sophie's nose. Vines hung low from the ceiling like a creature grabbing for something to grab hold of. "The date is around 9,000 B.C." The Doctor explained as he and Sophie walked down the halls. "Atlantis, sometime soon, will sink into the ocean for some unknown reason. 'A day and night of misfortune.' He finished. "Yeah, some misfortune." Sophie added, "Loose a whole island." They walked in silence for sometime after that. Every now and again the Doctor would stop and sonic the walls for some reason. The two never ran into a single person though. No one walking hurriedly by the strangers in strange clothes from a distant strange place. Sudden jerks and rumbles would hit the hallways, this worried Sophie but she didn't bother the Doctor with it. The whole city was seemingly connected, a network of hallways and covered stairs. There were clearings every once and awhile and the Doctor explained that this is where the Atlantians would have their daily markets and thousands of people would roam, talk, catch up with one another. "I just don't understand." The Doctor exclaimed as he and Sophie passed through the third deserted market area. "There should be, well, millions of people we should have passed!" Each word bounced off the walls like super balls, and reverberated back into Sophie's ears like cannons. He was getting increasingly agitated. "Doctor, maybe, it's just not a market day?" Sophie tried. "No." The Doctor instantly countered her. "Something else is wrong." He finished. The two took a few more steps, and then were violently thrown to the ground by a giant shudder. Water seeped through the ceiling and walls. "Something is defiantly wrong!" The Doctor shouted.
