Cole Turner paced his expansive living room silently, his handsome visage blank but his blue eyes portals into the expressive, emotional man everyone wish they knew. He shook his head roughly and turned towards one of the many windows, locking it quickly after he had shut it. He closed the blinds and turned away.
They can still orb in…he thought to himself, locking the windows won't stop them from coming in and killing you.
Cole sighed and flicked his wrist at his stereo; the large object turned on and started playing the radio. The song to come on next stopped Cole's heart, were people watching him and writing his life out?
I close both locks below the window…
I close both blinds and turn away…
Sometimes solutions aren't so simple…
Sometimes "goodbye's" the only way…
"Not again," Cole moaned, running his hands over his scruffily bearded face.
The words drifted from the stereo, wafting towards Cole's perked ears as they echoed his life's story yet again.
"Except I'm not eating Chinese food this time," he muttered as he threw his body into the same chair he occupied the last time he listened to the radio.
And the sun will set for you…
The sun will set for you…
And the shadow of the day…
Will embrace the world in gray…
And the sun will set for you…
"What about me? I'm an innocent guy," Cole asked aloud, waving a hand in the air casually, "Albeit the fact that I'm a former mercenary slash assassin…will the sun not set for me?"
Pink cards and flowers on your window…
Your friends all plead for you to stay…
Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple…
Sometimes "goodbye's" the only way…
Cole shook his head as the words continued flowing out smoothly, "Pink cards no, flowers yes…however not on the window. I gave to her in person, that way I was guaranteed a kiss from her sweet lips…" Cole shuddered as the memories flooded his mind. He stared ahead, once again masking his emotions on his face, though he no longer knew why he bothered. He was alone; no one was there to see them, no one.
Goodbye was the only way…the beginning was simple, despite the lyrics to this heart wrenching song, it was simple…we were in love then…
"Poof!" Cole snapped his fingers, "It was all gone."
And the sun will set for you…
The sun will set for you…
And the shadow of the day…
Will embrace the world in gray…
And the sun will set for you…
"I oughta change the station," he murmured, his mind running with fond and dreadful memories, as he made no move to change the said station.
And the shadow of the day…
Will embrace the world in gray…
And the sun will set for you…
Cole stood up slowly and shuffled towards the locked window, he hesitated before he pulled one of the soft blinds away. He peered out towards the darkening sky.
And the shadow of the day…
Will embrace the world in gray…
And the sun will set for you…
An orange and yellow sunset was barely seen, but it was evident. Cole shook his head slowly, "I need some sleep."
With that he shuffled out of the room and stood in his doorway, listening as the last words died away. He shook his head once more, and snapped his fingers. All the lights and the stereo turned off, cloaking Cole in blackness.
He stood stock-still and listened to his own breathing in the dark; the only sound in the large, empty penthouse. Tears once again cascaded down his face like lazy rivers before he turned on his heel and closed the bedroom door softly behind himself.
