Disclaimer: I don't own KHR!
Dark, long, thick eyelashes; thin, pursed lips; flawless, pale porcelain skin and high cheekbones. All to shortly describe the view that greeted your eyes every time the birds began to chirp, both outside and inside.
The sight of one sleeping Hibari Kyoya.
He has dark rings under his eyes, you noticed. The nightly patrols around the neighborhood certainly did not win him more time to rest at night, though they were responsible for his frequent afternoon naps up on the rooftop. Perhaps that was why he wanted (needed, you could almost hear him correct you using a deep, irritated tone) to do so. To feel more at ease.
The same, yet so different.
You sighed and ran a hand through the tangled mess of hair you owned, caused by the tossing and turning during your slumber. Lately he was rarely at home, and when he was, it was usually only to eat and sleep. As time went by, the amount of time he spent outside increased, and the intervals between his mysterious disappearances decreased significantly. No matter how many times you asked, in countless various ways, his answer was always the same.
"It's none of your business."
At times, he would lock the door (there was only one way in and out; the house was small, after all), took your spare key, blocked the windows with any furniture he could lay his hands on and warned you not to take step outside, or his tonfas would meet your head. Other times, he locked himself in- you outside- and warned you not to take a step inside. There were several moments when you had to sleep over in a friend's house, but the next morning you would always wake up on your bed, with the same bed-tousled locks, facing him who was slightly snoring on his and the smell of overcooked breakfast ready on the table.
Sometimes, no matter how much you feared and dreaded it, you couldn't stop your mind from wandering to dangerous places. You thought of a day when he would no longer be beside you when you woke up. Thought of the day when you would only find a cold, empty bed, with no indentations on the pillow due to the weight of his head and his bad sleeping habits. Thought of the day when-
A series of high-pitched 'Hibari's that was soon followed by Namimori Middle's school anthem broke your train of thoughts. You watched, suddenly amused at the little bird that circled above his master's head in perfect, small circles, before finally giving up and landing on your shoulder, claws gripping hard enough to tickle. It hopped several times to turn and chant the boy's name directly to your ear.
"All right, all right, I give up," you giggled. For the time being, you tried not to take the little things for granted, and hope there wouldn't be a change tomorrow morning. And the next. And the next. And the next.
"Ohayou gozaimasu, Onii-sama."
