A solitary figure stood on the crest of a small grassy hill overlooking field upon field of marigolds. It was sunset, with a cloudless blue sky enveloping the earth. In short, the whole scene was picture perfect. These were the thoughts of the young man as he looked at the ground with empty eyes, a single marigold held loosely in his right hand, a crumpled piece of parchment in the left. Slowly kneeling down on one knee, he gently placed the handpicked flower down on the floor.
Flashback-"We shouldn't be doing this." Hermione managed the sigh as she pushed him away lightly.
"I know." He went in for another attack on her swollen lips, giving her feather-light kisses, teasing her and watching her eyes slowly flutter shut once more. He left a trail of kisses over her cheek, and, upon finally reaching his destination, began leaving his mark on the smooth skin of her slender neck.
She let out a sigh of perfect contentment and let him do to her whatever he pleased, that is, until that annoying little voice in the back of her mind decided to interrupt. This feels so good, but it is SO wrong. What the HELL am I doing?! No no no no no this cannot happen. He's… he's… everything I stand against, my best friend's enemy… MY enemy! The boy who teased me mercilessly… shattered my self-confidence… this absolutely HAS to stop. What IS this anyway? I'm probably just the next victim he plans on adding to his ever-growing list… another notch on his bedpost. But the things he does with that mouth… oh Lord I'm in trouble…
She pushed him away and sidestepped so as not to be trapped between his body and the classroom wall behind her. He looked at her with apprehension and befuddlement in his strikingly silver eyes… still a bit dazed from their heated embrace.
One word escaped her lips; a simple question…but it meant so much. "Why?"-End flashback
A ghost of a smile graced Draco's lips as he remembered the turning point in their relationship. Now, by no means was that their first kiss, that bit isn't important, what is important however, is that that was the first time either of them voiced the timeless question of… why? It opened so many doors for the both of them, but those open doors also left the possibility of hurt, rejection, and pain.
He knelt there a while longer, not caring about the grass stains on his fancy new trousers, and focused on letting his memories take him back to better times.
AN: I know, short, but later chapters are gonna be longer I swear! I was planning on making this a oneshot… but I couldn't possibly have fit in everything I wanted, so I decided on breaking it up. Review please! Tell me what you guys think. P.S. SO not giving up on my other fic, Fragile as a Rose… have just been a bit busy lately so yeah, go read and review that one too:
