Just a short little oneshot. Mainly because I really feel for Rangiku. And I like the idea of her and Toshiro being friends!

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Waiting, always waiting. Ever since they had been children, she had been waiting for him. Sometimes; when she had been alone to long, or it was too late at night, or she had had too much to drink she wished he had just let her die of her hunger.

Dying would have been easier than dealing with the pain on loving Gin Ichimaru. She had had too much to drink. Too little sleep. Too much time spent alone. She wanted nothing more than for Gin to appear in one of his unannounced visits. Hold her tightly and not disappear in the morning.

But Gin was gone. He was most likely dead. That was what they all said; Gin Ichimaru had died a traitor to Aizen and a traitor to the Soul Society.

She wanted to die. Living like this wasn't healthy. Living without him wasn't healthy. She couldn't do this anymore, be the bearer of this burden. It was going to be one of those nights.

She was vaguely aware of the tears slipping down her cheeks in the moonlight, the sake bottle she held loosely shattering against the hardwood floor. Her body following the broken bottle, hands cut on the glass. She couldn't breathe correctly and her sobs came out sounding like mangled screams.

Maybe she was screaming "Why?" but she might have also called for him. Sometimes she was weak like that.

When she woke up the next morning she was on the couch, and her Captain's favorite blanket was wrapped tightly around her. Her hands were bandaged neatly and all traces of her pity party were gone. Her stoic partner sat at his desk, dutifully working through her paperwork with his usual blank expression. He stopped to look at her, and their eyes connected for a long moment.

"Thank you, Captain." She said softly.

"Of course, Rangiku." He replied, just a hint of a smile twisting his lips.

"Would you like some tea?" she asked, retrieving her spare uniform and survival kit. She would use the communal bath to freshen up.

"I would love some. Have someone bring in breakfast and we can take a break." He said casually, focused on the paperwork.

"Of course, Captain." She bowed slightly before exiting the room.

It was one of those days; where she was to eat a grand breakfast, glad that her closest friend was always there for her, and she was happy to simply be alive.
