Gabriel stood silently on the bridge. He looked off into the distance and saw the sun begin to rise. He shuddered at the chill of the early spring morning. It was cold that day too he thought. Gabriel looked down and stared into the swift moving water. He kept a firm grip on the roses he bought the day before. His gaze remained on the water for what seemed like a long time. He watched with a depressed look on his face as the water washed away the rocks and dirt
"It's funny," he said quietly, "that things can be swept away so easily." Gabriel smiled a forced smile as he thought about his loved one. It had been two years since Vany had died and the awful memories of that cold spring day were still engraved into his mind. His grip on the roses tightened and their thorns cut into his bare fingers.
Why? Why? Why? Gabriel shifted slightly and tilted his head towards the sky. His eyes widened "WHY? What was the purpose of us meeting? What was the purpose of her long lonely life? What the hell is wrong with you?" His screams echoed violently into the surrounding wilderness. His griped tightened on the roses even more until blood began gushing from both of his hands. His legs buckled underneath him and he fell to his knees. "I wonder," Gabriel's voice was only a whisper now, "why God is supposed to be so extraordinary when he does horrible things to good people…" Gabriel slowly began to stand up. He had made a mess. The area of the bridge he had been standing had blood spatters everywhere. Not only that but, the roses were now covered in his blood. He laughed a little bit at the irony. That his gift to her ended up being covered in blood.
"Just like everything else… everything else is bloody and cold." Gabriel slowly lifted the bundle of roses. "These are for you Vany. No. Not Vany, your true name was Eglantine wasn't it?" He dropped all the roses he had at once. He felt something warm and wet well up in his eyes. "Come to think of it your name meant briar rose didn't it?"
The sun shone through the cheap hotel curtains. Julie mumbled under her breath and she tried to burrow down into the blankets where the sun couldn't reach her.
"Hey blanket hog it's time to wake up anyways." Damon said grumpily. She rolled over and latched onto Damon's bare chest. Julie's face turned red.
"Are you naked?" Julie asked.
"No, do you want me to be?" Damon teased back. Julie jumped almost five feet of the bed at the thought. She hastily ran into the bathroom.
"Uh n-no I don't. Please put a shirt on!"
"Don't forget to wear something black today." Damon said in an unusually depressing voice. Julie stepped out of the bathroom and sat back on the bed next to Damon.
"Oh yeah, today is the day isn't it?" She choked back a sob. Damon wrapped his arms around the small crying girl.
"Yes, but be strong we'll make it through this.
End
