Wolf With The Red Roses

Pairing: Remus Lupin/ Nymphadora Tonks

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.

Author's Note: This is an AU fic, taking place in the middle of Order of the Pheonix… this is after Christmas, but is a standalone fic. Oh, and Sirius can leave Grimmauld Place, he's not too trapped.

Tonks sighed as she trudged up the stairs to her bedroom at Grimmauld Place. It was late and she had just gotten off guard duty at the Ministry of Magic. What she was guarding, she didn't know, just that it was important. All she wanted right now was to go to bed! Well, if she was honest with herself, she wanted something else too, but going to bed was the only want that had a possibility of coming true.

She shook her head as she reached the landing on her floor. Grimmauld Place was quiet now; it was only she, Sirius, and Remus around. Tonight, Sirius was staying with Hestia Jones; it gave him a change of scenery. Tonks wished he were here; it saved her from being alone with him.

As she passed the door to Remus' room, she heard music. It sounded like the end of a song. Tonks looked through the keyhole. Remus was holding his wand like a microphone, and dancing around, singing along with the CD.

And the last thing I see is my heart

Still beating

Still beating

Breaking out of my body and flying away

Like a bat out of hell

Like a bat out of hell

Like a bat out of hell

Like a bat out of hell

Like a bat out of hell

Like a bat out of hell

Tonks heard the next track start and took a deep breath. Could she do it? As Tonks debated with herself, she heard Remus talk along with the CD.
"On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?"

Tonks made up her mind with that line. She quietly opened the door and said the next line.
"Will he offer me his mouth?"

Remus looked up, startled. He grinned wolfishly.
"Yes"

Feeling better about her decision, Tonks kept talking.
"Will he offer me his teeth?"

Remus took a step closer.
"Yes"

"Will he offer me his jaws?"

Another step.
"Yes"

"Will he offer me his hunger?"

And another.
"Yes"

Tonks gulped, her feet rooted to the spot.
"Again. Will he offer me his hunger?"

Remus almost shouted his reply.
"YES"

"And will he starve without me?"

He took another step; there were only a couple feet between them now.
"Yes"

Tonks took a deep breath, putting herself on the line with this question.
"And does he love me?"

Remus nodded.
"Yes"

Tonks smiled.
"Yes"

Remus took another step, bringing their bodies a centimeter away from one another.
"On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?"

Tonks brought her hand up to rest on his shoulder. She stared into his eyes.
"Yes"

Remus brought his hand to her cheek and turned her head. He smiled at her and kissed her.

Tonks had one thought running through her head: Finally!

The song played on, forgotten as two people shared their first kiss.
