Escaping!
(a short story)
It was the 1800's and there was slave trade coming into the world. All the black men and women were put on the small lower deck of the boat to be transported and eventually, sold. They were put into the lower deck because it was simply to damp from the water seeping in. Making no white man or women ever want to be there. So they simply put the African Americans in the lower deck.
But the worst of all the slave boats was the Queen pearl. The queen pearls ship crew didn't even treat each other right, and that was how it was supposed to be.
The queen pearls structure was specially designed so that people could fit twice the amount of slaves in a ship than any other. The lower deck was cut in half like a shelf almost, a shelf for slaves. Because of this when slaves were packed in the had to crawl through the small place and eventually lie down. It was so bad that if a normal healthy person had to get to the other side of the ship and crawl through there, they would get severely sick.
But one day there will be a chance for hope and freedom, all in one African American boy named, Rago. Rago was always treated like filth and scum, but usually shrugged it off, and that's what has now made him a hero.
But Rago's adventure all started when he boarded the slave ship, The black rose. The black rose was a small simple slave ship, making it easy for Rago to escape. But Rago of course had to do this at night when all the guards were on the deck.
So deep in the dead of night Rago scouted over to an old wooden tool box. Rago opened it with his feet and knocked out all the contents onto the floor. Rago with his hands still tied literally behind his back, got a nail and undid the lock that was holding the rope tight. Rago got free and left the ship and continued to hide.
But now Rago has a different challenge to face, the queen pearl. Rago knew that this was not going to be like his other ship escapes, but he was still prepared for anything. As Rago entered a foul odor wafted through the air. The guards he passed pushed him roughly towards the lower deck . Rago went down there and the guards started to get upset because there wasn't anywhere to put Rago.
But they finally came to a conclusion to put him in the kitchen. While Rago was in the kitchen he thought of a plan to escape, but this time he was going to help others escape also. So later that night Rago noticed a mirror and broke it. When the shards fell, Rago picked up one and once again undid the shackles that bound him.
Rago then went down to the lower deck and free others. Then they all traveled up to the deck and avoided the guards. But one of the people Rago brought along tripped and fell to the ground. Rago quickly hid. But Rago forgot to warn the others to hide and they all eventually got killed while Rago was watching, Rago couldn't watch it any longer because the guilt was killing him.
Rago then leaped out of the ship and on to a lifeboat down below and cut the ropes with his shared of glass and sailed away. Rago grew tired and drifted into to sleep and when he woke up he was in the middle of the sea. He decided to look for land and when he was looking he saw a shark. Rago panicked and by doing so got tangled in the ropes inside the boat, and so Rago sailed away hoping to find freedom but not knowing what to do.
