This was written for Camp Potter for the paintwar prompt. We had to write about a costly mistake in the war. It has 209 words.
Sirius couldn't believe that he had made yet another costly mistake with dealing with Peter Pettigrew. He thought that he had captured him once and for all. He thought that Harry was going to be living with him for good. He was already imagining how they would be decorating his house.
He already planned on telling Harry a bedtime story every night. Harry was a little old for that, but they would be catch up stories about him and his father. Sirius thought that Harry would love that, despite his age. They would find somewhere to go flying.
Sirius had freedom at the palm of his hands for a few short hours. But Pettigrew took it away from him by transforming and sneaking away. That little rat. He hated Pettigrew almost as much as he hated Snape. Snape knew he wouldn't have killed James, but he was too blinded by his greasy hair and hatred.
He was planning revenge on Pettigrew as he flew away from Hogwarts on Buckbeak. He was once again leaving his godson. He had a nasty feeling that this mistake would cost them another war. Pettigrew was no doubt going to return to his Master. Sirius would be better the next time they met though.
