Borders

Chapter 1

Peter stared at the Narnian ocean before him, and happily dug his toes into the sand. It felt good to relax. His sisters were swimming just down the beach and Edmund was reading beside him. The sun was out glimmering on the water and Peter knew that if he turned around, Cair Paravel would be shining in the sunset. It was all good…or so it appeared at the moment. In other places in Narnia things were not going well. The giant were causing trouble on the borders again and Calorman was making trade difficult of late, since Narnia still refused to deal in slave trade.

Beside him, Edmund set down his book and stared at his older brother, amused at the growing frown on Peter's face.

"You know, if you don't learn to leave work at the castle, you'll never relax." He said.

"Hmm?" Peter said snapping out of his thoughts "What, Ed?"

"I said to leave Narnia's problems at Cair Paravel." Edmund scolded "You need a day to be yourself, to be just Peter, without the responsibilities of being the High King."

"It's not like I can just stop being king, Ed. You know that." Peter replied, yawning "And I do relax, I am right now."

"Right…which is why you were scowling, right?"

Peter rolled his eyes and continued quickly scanned the beach for Susan and Lucy, who had just tumbled out of the water and were coming their way.

"Peter, the water is glorious!" Lucy said, flopping onto the sand. "You should swim a bit."

"Maybe later Lu," he said, "I'll think I'll head up to Cair. I need some sleep."

"Oh, but Peter you can't leave! We're having such a wonderful time!" Susan pleaded

"If I stay much longer, I'll fall asleep on the sand." He said, yawning again. Susan stared at him and frowned.

He does look tired. She thought And he's going to bed earlier than usual…he has been for days. I wonder if something's wrong?

"Are you alright, Peter?" she questioned, and her brother grinned wryly.

"Fine, Su. I've just been busier than normal lately." Peter replied "I'll get some sleep and be fine in the morning."

Again, his little sister frowned but nodded and gratefully Peter turned and walked back to the castle.

AN: Alright, I know it's a little boring now, but it'll get better as I go, I promise.
