A/N: This is the first story I've ever completed and dared to post. It may be a bit out of character, due to the lack of Criminal Minds available on British TV.

Emily scanned the room as she entered the bar, looking for the one face she didn't want to see. Spotting the familiar blonde hair in a far booth caused her to falter, unconsciously delaying the inevitable. Despite wanting desperately to walk away, Emily forced herself further inside, as JJ met her gaze.

Is that seat taken
Congratulations
Would you like to take a walk with me

Seating herself across from JJ, Emily stared at the table, examining the varnished wood. JJ waited quietly, long minutes passing, until Emily grew impatient and looked up into worried blue eyes. "You actually came" JJ stated, surprised, given the distance that had grown between the two women. "Are you going to tell me why?"

My mind it kind of goes fast

I think I'd love to take a drive

I've been wanting to give to you for years

Running a hand through dark hair, Emily sighed. "I can't keep doing this" she replied. I can't work with you everyday and know that you're with him.

Despite the nature of their job, JJ knew that Emily was more than capable of coping with the horror they saw everyday. She looked intently at Emily, as if trying to see right through her. This wasn't the first time Emily had doubted her ability to cope, but she had never considered resigning because of it. JJ had to know,"What's different now?"

I came to see the light in my best friend
You seemed as happy as you'd ever been
My chance of being open was broken
And now you're Mrs. him.

The surface of the table suddenly seemed appealing again, and Emily stared down at it, refusing to meet JJ's piercing gaze.

My words they don't come out right
But I'll try to say I'm happy for you
I think I'm going to take that drive
I want to give you something
I've been wanting to give to you for years

"I just have other things I want to do," she finally answered. If I can't have you, I can't stay where you are. "I love the BAU, but I can't stay here."

"I don't understand," JJ replied. "You haven't spoken to me since- Is this because of Will?"

"JJ-"Emily began, unable to find the words to explain. I'm in love with you. "I have to go." Emily stood to leave, but JJ was faster, and pushed her back into the seat.

"You're leaving because I'm engaged to Will?"

"No, I'm leaving because you're engaged to Will."

JJ stared in shock as the brunette fled the bar.

Emily had almost reached her car when she felt the hand on her shoulder. Looking into JJ's eyes, she saw the confusion that she knew mirrored her own. She felt JJ's hand stroke her cheek as JJ whispered "Don't leave."
